I'm just putting this up because I have the feeling it's time for a new car, but I'm not sure yet, so this is just a feeler for the time being still someone is either seriously interested or I make up my mind.
I spent most of August refreshing almost everything in this car for it to be up for anything. This car was an absolute basket case when I bought it a year before. Everything was either broken, blown, or on its way out. I've gone through replacing almost everything I could afford or had the time to. There's still a few items left, but mostly cosmetic at this point.
I'm the 5th owner on paper. The original owner purchased it in Germany through a BMW dealer in Washington. He owned it till importation when owner #2 and his wife (owner #3, she got it in the divorce) bought it. The wife was the owner till 2009 when my friend bought it. He owned it for almost a year when I bought it in August of 2010, it had been sitting majority of that year as a back up car.
In the year and a half I have owned it, it has never given me any troubles other than a belt flying off once in 15,000 miles. The old M42 still ran great when I pulled it out to preform a 24v swap, albeit with failing timing components. It had been rebuilt at some point in it's life. Crosshatching was still visible in the block when the head was pulled. I still have it available to go with the car if you are concerned about vins matching.
In it's current state, I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. I make a 800 mile trip every month with zero hick ups to date.
At some point, someone decided to have some body work done. The car had a crappy Schwarz respray (originally Diamond Schwarz) and driver side fender replacement (all other vins match fyi). This is the glaring fault in this particular E30. The result is a 5 footer car that requires a good buff every 2 weeks to keep it looking good. This is my main concern that makes me want to sell it. I'm too picky when it comes to body work and I sure as hell can't afford to get a job done that I would be satisfied with. ;)
