WTB SoCal: Volvo 740/940 Sedan/Wagon TURBO!

I know there's some decent overlap between Volvo guys and BMW guys so I thought I'd take a chance and post this here.

I been looking for a 2nd car primarily for my girlfriend to drive, but also as a reliable driver for when my BMW is getting worked on. After considering lots of cars that are reliable, affordable but also classic and zippy, I've narrowed my search down to a 940 or 740.

Prefer TURBO, but open to non turbos if the condition is right.

Prefer auto, but manual is not out of the question.

Open to sedans or wagons. Doesn't have to be immaculate, but in good mechanical order and fairly clean.

I'm in San Diego but will travel up to LA for the right car.

My budget is $2k, but might be willing to stretch it for the right car.

My roommate has a 940 wagon he's looking to sell. It's non turbo, red and pretty clean! It's got nice cloth interior, new tires and fresh timing belt and water pump.

Other cars we are considering besides volvos:

-'89-later Mercedes 190e (w201)

-80-85 Mercedes 300D turbo diesel (if running reliably)

-Any year Pre-GM Saab 900, coupe, sedan or convertible

-97-99 Subaru Outbacks

-e28/e34/e46 if we feel like we can afford the maintenance.

Nothing white. I hate white cars.
