It is nice to see one done properly, I'm in the same position as you, if you were to build one like the one I'm selling, it would cost over 13k. You can pretty much assume your only gonna get about half of that back. Bump for a nice car at a fair price!

        And I'm a sucker for alpine =)

And the funny thing is people always think they can build the same car for less. I have thought the same myself and gotten hammered in the process. I was telling one of the guys who is interested in my car this story.

Back a few years ago when the economy was pumping, business was very good. I had been racing Porsche's for a few years and decided I was going to build a dedicated track 911. My mechanic had a gorgeous, fully modded in all the right ways 911SC. He had won the Driver of the Year award with the Porsche Owners Club in this car. He offered it to me for $30k. Well, I knew for sure that I could build that exact same car for less than that.

So I bought a 911 for $10k and got to work. I did every single thing that I could do myself. Tons of work myself. I had my mechanic buddy do much of the work for me too. Either at his shop after hours at a greatly reduced rate or at his house for the same sort of deal. Sometimes all things cost me were lunch or beer.

By the time that 16 months of building that car were done and I totaled up my receipts of money I had actually spent, I had spent $65k. My friends and mechanic had all been having fun at the track the whole time I was building my car. I was almost sick to my stomach when I totaled up what that car had cost me. But whatever, it was killer.

So I started taking it to the track and the thing was a monster. And guess what, it was no faster than my mechanics car that I could have bought for way less and not busted my ass building it.

Then my wife got pregnant and I raced for a couple of more years, but college funds and paying the house off became more important to me. The Porsche sat in the garage collecting dust. About 6 months ago I decided to sell it and one of my racing buddies who knew all about my build and what it had cost me swooped in and bought it. My sale price for it? $35k

So this time, I decided to buy a car that someone else had put all the time and money into and after searching for months, I found this one. It's a great car and I really like it. But, after bugging a different racing buddy to sell me his car and him saying no I went ahead and picked this car up. Now after 4 months of ownership and with my first track day scheduled to happen in late April, that buddy said he would sell me his car.

What's his car? An e30 M3 with an S52 and a full cage. So yeah, I'm going to snag that car and this great car is going to go to someone else who is smart enough to let someone else take the financial hit of building a car like this.

            Bump.

A couple of guys have come to see the car. Both have loved it. One is trying to decide if it is a little too hardcore to use as his daily driver. He has been looking for months and said this is the nicest e30 he has seen in that time. The other guy is a bit light on cash and is scrambling to sell his e36 and come up with more money. He will find an e30 in his current budget, just not one like this.

And to any others interested, I am flexible on the price. Not thousands of dollars flexible though. :)

I took my wife and two kids for a drive this afternoon in this car. We went up PCH from Huntington Beach up to Seal Beach and back. The car ran great and the kids had fun. My daughter said, "this car is buzzy" and I said, "honey, that's because it has these great, new AKG motor and trans mounts. They're a little buzzy, but now my engine doesn't jump or flex in the motor mounts and when I hit it, it goes right now!" and I hit the gas and the car jumped forward and she said, "weeeeeeeeee". After I was done, her and her brother kept saying, "do it again, do it again." The look in my wife's eyes said, "take it easy Auberlen." :)

Damn this car is so tempting. I really want two more doors though. My 325 had the same dent on the front passenger fender. It may be a sign.

Hold out for full asking price. As owners of the best 5% of e30's collectively holding out will help elevate the price bracket for these fantastic cars. I picked up an almost identical car a couple years ago in the same price bracket and it has been worth every penny. A couple people that had considered buying the car saw it at a meet and said it was a grand out of their budget and remarked I had bought almost twice as much car. The buyer of this car will be very happy.

I bought my car with the exact amount of IE goodies on it for $3500 and now have over $9k into it and it doesn't look anywhere near as clean. Although $7500 seems like a lot of money for a stockish motor, with what I know now, this seems like a good deal. Very clean car. GLWS
