Throwing this out there on here to see if someone would be interested in a true knock around DD or maybe a summer project.
The time has come for me to sell the car I never though I would. The basics of the car are that it is a 1995 318ti, alpine, 5 speed, M42, 253,296. The car has been a great DD for me and much more than that. I bought it in July 2009 with 210,000 and have used this car as my primary driver up until yesterday. I will be as up front about this car as possible as I am hiding nothing here, just want to find her a good new home and someone who will get the kind of joy out of her as I have for the last few years, be that as a DD, project or even a track toy.
The car shows her age and mile, no doubt about that. There are various dents, dings, scratches and even a nice little crease. All of this damage came from a previous owner when it had a few run-ins with a ditch and a light pole and probably something else. I have replaced the bumper with a clean used one and did the nose panel facelift and it has black kidneys.
The seats are rough, drivers seat much worse that the passengers but neither are in good shape. The back seat is in ok to decent shape but that is because it never gets used and with all of my junk it really doesn't even get exposed to the sun that much. The interior is the sand color leather, non-sport.
The is not stock but other than the rims all upgrades were done by previous owners. It has a good number of Racing Dynamic parts like strut tower brace, front and rear sway bars, a subtle hatch lip (not currently on the car but is painted to match and is included) and I think that is it. M3 X-brace. It is on Bilstein shocks and has H&R springs, although the front is still on stock springs but they are included. It is also on e38 style 5's with almost brand new rubber. I got the tires mounted just after new years and have not been driving the car as much so I would guess and say they have less than 1000 miles on them. They are Kuhmo ecsta and are 205/45/16. If the front was lowered the car would look much better.
The car has had some of the cooling system replaced within the last year starting in March of last year the radiator and thermostat were replaced. Water pump was not done then and I am not sure when it was last done. The car has also had new tie rods, wheel bearings in the back and a rear shock mount. I have tried to keep up with the car but back in August of last year I bough a M3 so the cars split driving time and I basically replaced what was needed when it was needed. Since I have owned it I have given regular oil changes and done what was needed to keep her on the road and running well.
With all that said the car is now developing a problem and it seems that a break, maybe the parking break but whichever one it is it will not dis-engage. It is not locked up and it will still drive and it seems to have only done this very recently. I was away for about two weeks for work and did not drive it for about a week before then and when I got back I noticed a smell that was consistent with that of a parking break burning. I stopped driving it and got a rental for the last week and yesterday bought a e60 to use for putting miles on. I did drive it for about 5 minutes last week, other than the smell the only other way I could tell it was a break issue was that when on a hill at a stop light the car doesn't roll if you let off the breaks. The windows are also off the sliders so they are in the up position and have remained there for some time as I don't feel like having one fall and shatter. I have sliders.
I am very flexible on the price and am very open to offers, $1000 is just a starting point. If I did not have the M3 and now the e60 I would just get the breaks checked out and fixed and continue to drive it myself. The car is out of inspection here in Va and if you live in Va and want to turn this into a DD and need it inspected after break issue is resolved I can get it inspected if you are unable to.
I feel like I have been open about the car, if you are interested don't hesitate to drop me a line and let me know or ask me any questions.
