Apparently "non structural" rust in the north means you can only fit one fist in the Hoke in the floorboard. Right front jacking post is pushed up into pass. compartment. Also body is seperating from left front shock tower by fuse box. Needless to say I am on my way home less 1 e30. Oh and to top it off I traveled from all the way from NC and he was half an hour late meeting me and "didn't have time" to get the title notarized.sigpicComment

First off I want to state I have absolutely no affiliation whatsoever with this car other than the fact that I work in Jersey City and would love to see it. I am in absolutely no way trying to attack or discredit aaron.
My initial thoughts: This is how you sell a car. (Or anything else for that matter). Seemingly very straightforward and honest account of the history and pros/cons/issues.
With that being said, I find it very hard to believe there were "fist-sized" rust holes that were not disclosed. The seller seems extremely honest and up-front, not to mention the numerous board members that have seen/know the car. Granted, lots can happen to a car in a few years (months, even in the northeast), but I would be more than happy to (and would very much enjoy) checking this car out for any interested buyers (and my own personal interest).
EDIT: And, FWIW, titles in NJ do not have to be notarized, so IDK what that has to do with anything.

And I was merely giving an account of my experience. Part of the reason I made the trip was because of the numerous members that vouched for it. I am sure someone will be very happy with it. I was looking for a "keeper". Dealing with rust in the rocker panel and floor of a unibody car is not what I was expecting.sigpicComment

I mean eye of the beholder I guess. Everything nice about that car is bolt on;that can be done with any car. Forget the fact its covered with dents and dings. Just was expecting better I guess. I could touch a fair amount of carpet through where the jacking post was attached. That was enough for me.sigpicComment

Also-I am not saying the seller did it on purpose. I believe he is honest; to his extent of knowledge of the condition of the car. Having done rust repair on numerous vehicles this one is salvageable-but that's not what I was looking for. Lesson learned.sigpicComment

Lets do the math. Clean southern car no rust 2-2500$. M3 5lug 1kto2k plus 1k in suspension pieces. This car-5k(what he offered it to me for) rust repair 8-1200$ paint/dent repair (how much you got?) And it needs an engine by the owners account (knocking/tired engine) I didn't even listen to it run. Also the carpet is cut from the roll bar install. I am not attacking the petson-only stating what I saw. AnywY I've said enough. Buyer-i would say beware/but like I said depends on what you are looking for. Rust is like cancer. Have fun.sigpicComment

i wanted to inspect the rust firsthand while the car was on a lift before updating this thread. while it's worse than i honestly remember it being, i do not think it is as bad as the would-be buyer makes it out to be. to illustrate: he estimates repair at 800-1200 and says the car is "salvageable" (???), as if it were one step away from falling apart; i received a quote yesterday for 400. not wanting to kick this can down the road, i will be going ahead with the repair and posting pics of it once it's complete. expect the next update sometime mid-next week. gooch and anyone else who is local are more than welcome to come check the car out.
oh, and aaron, while i understand and regret that the car didn't meet your (let's face it: high and probably unrealistic) expectations, your borderline character attacks were unwarranted. half an hour late? WTF is that dude? i had to reach out to YOU to get a status update from YOU on YOUR whereabouts. if you talk to ANYONE here who knows me they will tell you that that's NOT who i am. and i was right to be skeptical about your request to have the bill of sale notarized (you asked to have the bill of sale - NOT the title - notarized -- get it straight); it would have been a waste of my time: http://www.ncdot.gov/dmv/vehicle/title/transfer
everyone else: thanks for the good words and support. i really did try to present the car the way gooch observes: straightforwardly and accurately. i wanted to sell this car the right way. various people here have met me on multiple occasions, have seen the car, have worked on the car. this guy meets me for all of five minutes, kicks the tires for five minutes, then decides it's fine to shit on me and my thread.
pics of repair to follow sometime next week.

I can vouch for this vehilce! I met him yesterday at my shop and we took a better look at the car. Everything which is stated is true. The rust spot under the passenger side is a bigger deal then he made it out to be. But in all respect he did not know of it. Being the honest indivdual he is i took his word. There are no other problems with the vehilce besides what he states. Yes the carpet is cut on the rear where a roll cage used to be. However, it is a very neat and clean cut. I wouldnt see the problem in patching it up. The vehilce drives well and handles as good. He was right on time had no problems or issues with what i had to say, great guy who took the time out to come and let me see the vehicle.Comment

i've had my share of rust bucket E30s, to know well enough that Andrew's car is one of the clean ones from the herd. Far from the exaggerated posts from above from aaron, and totally uncalled for remarks on 'his opinions' of the car. It has its' imperfections, but what unrestored E30 doesn't???? Its unfortunate your expectations weren't met, but bashing a seller's car, esp one as well descriptive and looked after one as OP's was below the belt. If you read his initial fs ad, OP was as descriptive and as thorough as possible....w/ little to no knowledge of the extent of the rust area, which btw he is taking care of.
Kudo's Andrew for not ripping this guys' head off on the spot. For anyone considering this car, I can vouch you are getting a very original and honest car. I would scoop this in a heartbeat if I had the money....and I'm not saying this just because.
Aaron, yeah i sell you my 'clean' E30....3xs Andrew's asking price.www.instagram.com/snwmble
