a chance at an e30 touring for cheap, let's work something out!

hey r3v. i'm in germany right now for school and pleasure in germany for six weeks and looking to pick up some wheels in the next few days. i'll probably be renting a car unless i can find someone who wants to work this deal out.

i found a 92 316 wagon near my current location that i want to buy. 600€, m40, mtech2 steering wheel, smilies, 5spd. it looks pretty basic, but for around $900 US, it could be worse. here's the problem: the car isn't grey-marketable because of late build date. so anyone looking to pick up a wagon to part out/track for around 3500-4k after shipping, keep reading.

what i can offer is to pay half of the up front cost (not including shipping) and drive/prep the car to be shipped. you pay me the other half once the car is picked up on the other side. what i ask in return is the ability to use it for a month to drive through france and holland while i'm out here, and ship some parts back inside the car.

here's the one i'm looking at.

    HERE

want something cleaner? search around, but upfront costs will have to be your resonsibility.

Just find an 87....that's why I got mine in that year. You can't ship parts back in the car anyway, at least that's what all the shipping companies I've talked to have told me. I can ship parts back cheap through the military post office, otherwise you'll be paying international rates. Shipping for a car is also about $2k...not including if they charge you taxes/import fees when you get it to the US. Not trying to rain on your parade but this is stuff to think about.

right, i had planned the whole 87-build thing, but my searches brought me nothing that wasnt ludicrously expensive or a rustbucket. i had an estimate for shipping at 1900 plus around 400 in fees RORO, which they would let me pack parts anywhere inside the car except the driver's seat. i've accounted for all this. just trying to see if anyone wants to pick this thing up if i buy it to drive.

Really... Can't someone just buy a 4 door e30 then take the vin #'s and tags then cut the car up into little pieces or sell for parts... Then swap vin #'s from the 4 door with the touring and call it good?

I heard that all the tourings come up as "4 door" when run by the dmv in the states,so all you need is a 4 door scrap car to swap vins with. Just make sure its not a salvage title 4 door.... That wouldn't be good. Lol

Not the easiest to switch the VIN on the cowl but it can be done.

it's such a pain finding/getting a touring in the united states.

You can take your chances; it sounds pretty illegal. Imagine you get into a major accident and the insurance company is looking for a way to get out of paying you for it. If they found the VIN elsewhere on the car, you could be in some hot water. Try looking up the recent e30 'M3' wagon sale threads for more opinion.
