why was the head replaced? and was it just a cylinder head from an s50 or is it assumed that the s50 cams were included? and was it an m52 originally or m50?

Motor:
> 2.8L bottom end, new BMW OE with approximately 60k miles, 2.8L engine is under square and has forged crank.
> 3.0 cylinder head, approximately 30k miles, fully redone by Turners' machine shop in Dover NH.

So basically you have a M52 2.8l with a S50 cylinder head. Its still a 2.8l M52 because the casting and valves for a M52 and S50 are exactly the same. The only real gains would be from the cams and valvetrain if they are included.

Also, all 2.8l, 3.0l, and 3.2l cranks are forged stock.

No, never been put on a dyno...I may be putting it on a dyno here in the near future to satisfy my curiosity, but I'm going to guess it's between 230-250?

230-250hp is what a S52 puts down. Since this has a M52 this car would be just slightly higher than a stock M52 so +/- 200 crank HP and a little less at the wheels. Might actually see a gain by getting a real CAI and ditch the AutoZone cone filter. Those are notorious for poor flow.
