Hey all,
I never thought I'd do this, but I'm putting my M5 up for sale. I never drive it anymore. I'm going to consolidate vehicles and buy a new project, either a P car or possibly a Factory Five roadster. I have always wanted one of those and I'm getting to the point in life where I can afford exactly what I want.
I bought this car in Seattle from a Microsoft executive and drove it back to socal. The whole story is here: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e39...roduction.html What drew me to it was the huge stack of repair receipts addressing virtually all of the issues you see with E39 M5's, including vanos solenoids and the ABS module. I flew in, drove it to a friend in Gig Harbor who is a professional detailer to get the full treatment, then drove it back to socal.
During my ownership I have faithfully kept up with any issues using my Peake reader and it has zero issues for the new owner. I have performed the following upgrades. I have all the stock items (where applicable) the new owner will also receive.
the car also has the following done by the previous owner:
Cosmetically this car is an 8/10. It's not a show car. This car was my daily driver for over a year and it shows some signs of it. There are chips on the front bumper and the leading edge of the hood, albeit small enough to not show from a few feet away. There's a poorly repaired scratch on the passenger rear door I always meant to get redone and never did. The interior could do with another Leatherique treatment although there's no damage to the leather anywhere. It has been garaged, usually under a cover, during my entire ownership. The paint is still glossy and deep black, although another detail wouldn't hurt it I'm sure.
The only known issues I can think of are all minor:
Here are some links to photobucket folders of pics showing the progression of the car during my ownership. Please take the time to look at these if you're seriously considering the car. There are many much better pics in these folders:

Here are pics I took the other day. I moved the car to the side driveway so my wife could reclaim the parking space in the garage. (It's part of the negotiation process on the new toy I mentioned earlier...hah.) It has since been vacuumed and cleaned up.

If you're looking for an E39 M5 with excellent bones, no surprises, adult owned, enthusiast owned, well maintained and with a clear title, this is your car. You can hop in this car today and drive it to New York. It still turns heads and gets compliments wherever it's driven. I've been complimented on it at countless stoplights, and followed by people asking about the exhaust. I know I will regret selling it, but for now I'm craving something new. I daily drive a new Focus, so by selling all my other toys I can take the next step to something I've always wanted since I was a kid. It's time for someone new to enjoy this car.
Asking $13,900/obo. Clear title in hand. Happy to take it anywhere you want a PPI done, schedule permitting. Test drives welcome for serious buyers. If you fly in to buy it, I will pick you up. I have over 100 high res pics and will be happy to take more pics of whatever you require. I might consider trades with me or you putting cash on top depending on what you're offering. Don't be afraid to ask.
Thanks for taking the time to view this. PM for contact information if you want to chat over the phone.

The only known issues I can think of are all minor:
- The rear-view mirror still works but could be repaired for $99 HERE if you want it to be new again. Just never got around to it.
- The passenger mirror gasket is missing and so the the mirror has browned a bit along the edges. I priced the replacement glass but never replaced it since it's so expensive.
- Sometimes it's slow to warm up but it doesn't throw a thermostat code for implausible temp so the thermostat may just be sticky.
- Rear tires are getting a bit camber worn but not even close to replacement yet.
- One power steering line is slightly weeping. I have all the OEM parts to replace both lines but haven't done it as it's not bad enough to affect anything, just something I noticed.
