Perhaps I'm alone on this thought (or not)... but PLEASE don't maim such a historically significant vehicle by using it's RIDICULOUSLY rare upholstery for an audio install. There are plenty of other E30's out there for that kind of idea. That's like using wood paneling from the Oval Office in the White House to build a new sauna in the west wing...
Quick edit...are you suggesting you think I would CUT UP a MTech part to use as material? What the hell is wrong with you?
Second EDIT: You have a PM. I do not take my work being insulted lightly. Apologies are in order.

How else do you propose to incorporate MTech cloth into a sub/amp display? MTech cloth, such as that which is found in this vehicle, is no longer produced and only very rarely does replica fabric come available. When it does, it fetches top dollar because it is the ONLY option remaining for MTech reupholstering.
Your work was never insulted (reread my post carefully). I am not familiar with your work. You may the best at what you do, but that doesn't mean a car like this needs aftermarket upgrades.
BTW, my commentary was mostly reserved for the individual that buys the car. My hope is that the individual that buys it will preserve it as a historically significant vehicle.Comment

Wish I would have seen this sooner. I just paid around $12k for this one:

Hey man, very nice car that shows well. Although i'm not an e30 expert, i know the rarity of these and have a pretty decent handle on older BMW's overall. Not that this price is bad, but there are a couple of hindering factors to consider. One not so small is the drivetrain swap. It's quite possible that the newer parts were a great upgrade and may offer some serious longevity, but the fact of having unknown mileage is a real bummer. 145K wasn't exactly a huge number on an M20 so why did it need it? And why oh why didn't a 5-spd get dropped in this beauty when they had the chance? The only other factor is getting the interior to match up correctly. The good thing is that it appears all of the fabric is in tact and salvagable when the seams are repaired, but money will be spent there to make sure the inside matches the cleanliness of the exterior. Of course this doesn't mean it isn't worth your asking price even though no one has ponied up yet. If it were another $1500 lower, I'd be trying hard to find the dough! But then I imagine quite a few people would be too. Good luck with a great and rare car that I'm sure will be enjoyed for a long time to come.Comment

As for the drive train swap, the reason the engine was replaced was the timing belt broke. The previous owner was a lady who knew absolutely nothing about cars so at 145k and never having a timing belt done made perfect sense. The reason I put that mileage is unknown on the engine is she lost the paperwork for the repairs which had that information on it. She told me the shop told her it had between 80-90k miles on it. Since I do not have proof of that I didn't want to put anything in about it. Just want to share the facts I know for 100% about the car. From that you can probably guess why there was no 5speed swap done. lol. That was in my plans for the car if I continued ownership.
As with the interior I agree, it could use some work to tidy things up but like you said its all intact. my thoughts on that are could a person take this one and make it as nice as the other that just sold for 12k? having that extra 4k Id sure think so. I have a very nice original carpet to go with the car and just got some original floor mats as well.
Thanks for the wishes and the insight. I just really hope it goes to a good home where someone take it to that next level of greatness.Comment
