    BMW 318is Everything Replaced

Car can also be found at:

RARE 1991 BMW 318is (M42 engine) Los Angeles, CA
Currently CA registered, Clear title, Passes smog test. Fresh Paint orig. BMW paint code. Cold A/C. Car has good power and handles great. Approx est.178k miles on car. This car is mechanically sound.. I've taken care of the brunt of the expensive restoration costs. The next owner will only have easy fixes to make the car perfect. ODO took a dive and mpg gauge is intermittent. Both are easy fixes, just haven't gotten to them yet. Priced to sell $5,200 obo please email me if you have serious interest.
    Thanks

                RE: seat cover inquiry

Not to be overly rhetorical, but seat covers are generally used when one intends to cover a seat. They were placed over the stock sport seats in lieu of reupholstering. They are nicer than the avg. seat covers, they cost $150. If I were to keep the car I would probably have had the seats re-done in leather.

                    Mileage?

I see the ODO is broken and you put up an estimate. What mileage does it show and how many miles have been put on since? Is the car true mileage unknown?

Thank you for your questions, the ODO currently reads 176,043, I only put a had full of miles on it before the gear stripped in the gauge. That was nearly a year ago and I have just been so busy with all of the other parts and pieces that I hadn't gotten to it yet. I got a momo wheel, the hub adapter and spacer, plus a new gauge cluster screen in preparation to take the wheel off and gauge cluster out. I have 3 cars in addition to this 318is, (Lexus suv, Porsche 951, and Mercedes 500E, truthfully it has spent more time in the shop getting worked done then out on the road. The car needed a lot of work when I bought it. My friends joke that I am the used car Saint because I always dump so much into old used cars. In the case of mileage unknown.. What does anyone do when the ODO breaks?? guess based upon use until you repair it, that's why I estimate that its got 178k and some change on it. But really so many parts have been changed its difficult to argue that anything has high miles on it at this point. I bought a compression gauge so that I could publish cylinder readings for all four cylinders I plan to do that this weekend. The car is really healthy, I assure you.
RE: The seats - I'm not happy with the seats. They are the factory sports seats that came with the car, but the owner before me decided to vinyl spray them plus the drivers seat had a tear. Ive been quoted as low as $350 and as high as $600 to rebuild/ recover the seats. If I were keeping the car I would probably for go that option and put some lightweight recaro buckets. But since I am selling I threw in a set of $150 seat covers, just to make it more palatable on the interior until the new owner decides what he/ she wants to do in there.
Hope this adequately answers your questions. Thank you.

RE: The carfax report - I never pulled a carfax report on the car, why? Because its a 22 year old 3 series not $40k late model sedan that I'm putting my family in. It had a clean title and the engine was in great shape when I purchased it. As stated in the add, my goal was to create a stylish, cheap economy car that handled well. I achieved that. I took it approximately 90% of the way replacing nearly all of the large components etc. and essentially transforming the car. As stated in the add, the future owner will only have minor fixes to make the car 100% the ODO included. I am mechanically savvy, therefore I was able to understand what needed replacement to make this a strong running car. I have not investigated the 300 plus mile carfax report, but if that's accurate, then that would mean that the car were driven 15k miles a year consistently since new. It would also mean that once the car had gone 300k+ miles, someone at that point swapped out the cluster only to have that ODO fail??? I've never even heard of an E30 ODO making it up to 200k without breaking let alone 300k sounds suspect. As stated I will publish compression figures to satisfy anyone looking for a great $5k car. If for some god forsaken reason the carfax history is all correct etc. Then the car has definitely had an engine rebuild and trans replacement because its just too strong otherwise. Please stand by for compression leak-down results.
