    1984 BMW E30 - Street/Track - Blown motor $3k

    Hi Folks,

    Pictures: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/pts/3848089545.html

Up for sale is a 1984 BMW E30. It belonged to a friend, who moved away. I have had it in my garage for a few months now, and it's time to get it to an owner who has time to fix it, or part it out and sent to a junk yard. The car passes smog (when running), and is a barrel of fun on the race track.

The car was purchased about 1.5 years ago from this forum post: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=222066

The owner (and his generous friends) spent some great number of hours making it smog legal, and then two abbreviated track sessions (one at Laguna Seca, one at Thunderhill). At thunderhill, the #1 bearing overheated and spun, creating a bearing or rod knock. The car was towed home, taken apart, and the damage was discovered. Now I don't have time to finish it, so my loss is your gain. Replace the #1 bearing and you have a smog legal race car.

Here's the plan: You either want this whole car because you have time and ambition, or you want some part of it because your brain is damaged in just the correct way to make you love this car and cars like it.

If you want the whole car, email this craigslist posting with subject "E30, WHOLE CAR". State your offer and some way to contact you in the email. You can also make an offer for simply buying whatever's left after it's parted out, if I decide to go that way.

If you want a part of the car, email this craigslist posting with subject "E30, PART - <insert part name>" Example: "E30, PART - Steering Rack". Include your offer in the email (you'll pay actual shipping cost, so don't factor that in). If any part is still attached to the car (like the suspension), you must remove it (or financially persuade me to do so).

At the end of day on 6/14/2013, I'll be deciding whether to part the car out or sell it to someone as a whole. I'll be contacting everyone very promtply, which ever decision I make. I promise you I'm ready to let this car go, so there won't be any dilly dallying.

Here are the highlights of parts. Everything is in working order unless otherwise noted. It's a complete car, so if there's something you need, it's probably here!

2.7 stroker engine - a "super eta". 325e lower end, 325 i top end. #1 main bearing is bad. Engine is out of the car. 885 head (fully rebuilt with gasket match and port and polish 5 angle valve grind)

    Getrag 260 (straight cut gears)
    70% stacked 2 way LSD -

Full custom welded 3" stainless, smog legal, E30 exhaust with Magnaflow muffler. Less than a year old. All custom welded. You'd pay $1000 for an exhaust like this in a shop. Complete from manifold to tailpipe.
    6 puck sprung CC clutch
Euro 323 single mass leightened flywheel

    OZ 100x4 15x8 (or 15x9, don't recall) with brand new Hankook's 225 50 15.

Ground Control double adjustable coilover kit - Willing to part this out, but I imagine someone wants the whole kit.
ST sway bars (front and rear)
    Rear camber tow kit
tinted lexan windows (not sure if these will come out or not. If there's interest, I'll investigate)

If you wait one more year it will be 30 years since the production date made this making it a classic and not needing it to be smog certified. Well at least in California not sure on other states

after 25 years most states does not require cars to do an emission test (smog test in california). the californians are weird, the might have a different set of rules as the do for everything else. CT does not even ask to do an inspection. the check the VIN and send you on your way.

It's false, in CA you need smog for anything '76 and newer. There was legislation proposed to bump this to '82, but it didn't pass.

I wish it did, all my cars would be smog exempt...

OP, I'm local and interested in some of these parts. I'll be sending you a PM.

Last I checked, they froze that. Anything 1976 and newer has to pass smog unless they pass new legislation.

TTT. Hey folks. Many people showed interest in buying this as a whole car, but all of them ultimately passed when it came down to it. It's going to part out. This Saturday and Sunday mornings are dedicated to part removal, so visit the CL ad, send me a message, and lay claim to what you want!

So sad to hear about this. Wish I had checked on on this site sooner. If you do part it out can I buy my shell back? Very interested.

I think that's inaccurate, actually. As far as I know, I am receiving this car at some point this week, putting a worn M20 into it, and then it's being driven to colorado where it will undergo a rebuild of the stroker.
