Ya know, these things occasionally break valve springs, which equals no compression. Before you pull the plug, at least pull the valve cover, and take a look. And, yes, with a little ingeuity, the spring can be changed in the car...

thats interesting. i recently discovered that this was actually a somewhat common occurrence on the s5x heads and sometimes even these. and given the symptoms and the sounds it made at first, i wouldn't be surprised if that really is the case. but im still convinced the valve is bent, so the head would have to come off regardless..

but i will gladly pull the valve cover to confirm this theory as soon as i get some extra time.
