Backstory:
This car has been owned by one of my best friends since 2005. He is the son of the owner of Shade Tree Garage in Morristown, NJ. As such, the car has always been maintained by the mechanics at his father's shop (which he worked at in the sales department up until recently). Over the course of the last year, my friend became involved with the local fire department as a volunteer and eventually got certified to fight fires for the forestry service. Wanting a change of pace, he picked up and moved out west at the start of the fire season. This e39 was left behind as my friend had more room in his Ford Expedition to haul his belongings across the country.
The car sat in storage for the last six months in anticipation of his return at the end of the fire season, however, it looks as though plans have changed and he'll be moving up to Portland, Maine to work on the ski patrol at a ski resort, so the time has come to sell the car. I pulled it out of storage, cleaned it up, changed the fluids, charged the battery, and it's ready to go to a new home. I'm handling the sale of the car as he is still out west. I have the title for the vehicle signed and ready to go.
The Car:
1997 528i
5 Speed Transmission
250,xxx miles

-Driver's side of front valence has a broken mounting tab (see pictures below)
-Random small dents and scratches typical of a car with this mileage.
-Rust spots on hood from rock chips
-Truck actuator broken (use key to open the trunk)
-Wheels could use a refinish (Balance out fine, however they aren't the cleanest)

-Steering wheel controls for the radio and cruise control (both operational)

-Cupholders are broken front and rear
-Shift knob is broken (held on by duct tape currently...don't laugh too hard!)

-Passenger's rear seat belt is broken
-Front passenger's window regulator is intermittent.
Mechanical:
Always serviced by master technicians at Shade Tree Garage in Morristown, NJ.
-No warning lights present besides brake lining
-Engine runs smoothly and can return 26-32 mpg depending on driving style
-A/C blows cold
-Will need new brake rotors and pads (light is on and brakes are worn)
-Will need an alignment
What it Needs
-New Brake Rotors, Pads, and Sensors
-Alignment
-Cupholders
-Shift Knob
-Floor Mats
-Front Valence Mounting Tab
-Trunk Actuator
-Rear Seat Belt
The Bottom Line:
The car is a solid daily driver. It will never be a show car as it has too many miles and would require too much money to make it into that kind of car. However, the m52 engine that is in this car has always been taken care of and will run forever. The A/C functions properly on all settings and makes this car comfortable to drive even in the hottest of weather. You can return over 30+ mpg on the highway easily.
Because my friend is living in Montana for the next couple months and then Maine after that, I will be handling the sale of this car. As already mentioned, I have the title already signed and ready to go, so there are no issues or hoops that need to be jumped through.
Please contact me, Matt Bonder, via Phone: 973-723-3783 (cell, you can text also), or email: mabonder@optonline.net to arrange to see the car. You can PM me also, but I'm not always here daily.
The car is currently located in Whippany, NJ and you must come here to see it as the car is currently uninsured and will not be driven except in my neighborhood. I am available on most nights after 5pm by appointment.
Asking Price for the car is $3000, or Best Offer. I will negotiate to a certain extent with those that actually come out to see the car, if you're not willing to do that, I'm not interested in your opinion of the price or the car. I'm trying to help my friend out and I have done my best to present the car as realistically as possible.
