FS in SLC, UT, 1988 325ix Manual coupe $5000

    SOLD for asking price.

I've decided to sell my e30 and am going to update (notice I didn't say upgrade) to a newer car with 4 doors.
I can be reached at 801 403 6111 by text or call for more information and to answer questions.

    UPDATE:
Fixed the wiper washers. Put a new control unit in and cleaned switch contact for washers.
Fixed drivers side window switch and cleaned window tracks for drivers side window.
Replaced roundel on trunk with new one.
New left front caliper and brake disc. One on there before worked, but stuck a bit.

I've had this car for about 3 years, and for a year and half of that, it sat on jackstands. When the fire under my ass finally got lit, I did the following work:
Pulled engine and inserted different healthy motor after refreshing. New motor I believe had about 120k on it.
New cam seals, rear main seal, front seal, timing belt, tensioner, pulley, water pump.
Engine runs great, will pull 80+ going up Parleys to Park City (I actually live at the top of Parleys)
    New clutch, tranny input seal
    New control arm bushings,
New control arm ball joints (all 4 of them, I found the long ones new in Canada)
    New sway bar bushings
    H&R springs
    Bilstein HD shocks
All front suspension parts were cleaned, wire brushed, and painted black
Front driveshafts were taken apart, cleaned, greased, and new boots. No clicking, they are in perfect shape.
New inside and outside tie rod ends, (no play in steering)
New Ebay stainless exhaust, much quieter than the rusting pos that was on there before. (fitment isn't great, but it works fine)
New IS style lip (flat black)
New Yellow fogs, (knockoff chinese ones, work well though when it is pounding snow out)
Repainted IX weaves with all 4 center caps
See my thread on painting wheels here...http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=286161
Sport seats in FANTASTIC condition (vinyl)
    Mtech 1 wheel
    This past winter:
Rebuilt transfer case, swapped out the bad VC. Passes jack test with flying colors. This car kicks ass in the snow with 4 snow tires (which incidentally, I have on a set of bottle caps and will toss into the sale!)
See my tcase rebuild thread here... http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...=transfer+case
New seals on Tcase. I'll include some Molykote br2 (or whatever the hell the proper grease is for the output shaft.
Output shaft splines in great shape, no wear visible.
    AWD is working at 100%

    That is the good.

    Here is the bad
No A/C. Never worked, never tried to fix it. All parts are present.
Sunroof doesn't work, Had it all pulled apart, and cleaned, but the used motor I put in only lasted a couple weeks. Mechanism is pretty smooth.
FIXED: Currently the windshield washer jets don't work, I think it is the switch on the steering column that died. FIXED
FIXED: Left window switch is intermittent, I haven't fixed it because I know the right spot to whack on the center console to make it work, should be an easy fix. FIXED
Some idiot cut out the door panels for speakers. Currently has grills over the holes.
    Antenna is broken.
So a couple rough edges, but overall the car is a satisfying daily driver, especially in the winter.
Odometer doesn't work. Shows 143k on it. But really, with that many miles, it is more about how the car has been maintained that the miles on it.

    Other stuff:
    New Pioneer stereo with bluetooth
    New Polk speakers up front
Boston Acoustic speakers in the back.
    Stereo sounds very good.
    Check panel works
    OBC works
NO CRACKS on the Dash. Dash is like new.

This car, once the work was completed, has been supremely reliable. No breakdowns. Good reliable, car.

Makes me sad to sell this car, I have enjoyed fixing it up and driving the last year+, but with a new baby, I need 4 doors. Hell maybe even a wagon then I can fit the dog too.

    Here are some pics.

Am I off base on my price? I thought there would be at least a comment....

    Some other stuff I forgot...

    MaksV 17.5 green top injectors
    new dist cap and rotor
    new thermostat

Again, car is super reliable, good daily driver. Winter is coming.

      Does it have heated seats?

      How is the rust situation?

Did you check compression on the engine - I ask since you did not pull the head.

How is the rear suspension holding up - rtab's, subframe bushings, shock mounts?

So you removed the silly door speakers and covered the holes, I assume that with new door cards everything would be back to normal in that regard?

How many miles are on the title/carfax if you have that information? Any guess on where the odometer should be, did it stop while in your possession?

        Good questions.
Heated seats: The seats are wired for it, and have the heater element, however it does not have the switches or the wiring harness for heated seats.

Rust: There is very little rust on the car. There is a heat shield by the muffler bit that has a bit of rust. There is about a dime size spot of surface rust where you lift the trunk just on the outside of the rubber seal. It is not visible from the outside of the car. Otherwise the car is pretty much rust free.

Rear suspension is in good shape, no clunking from RTABs or sub frame bushings. No corrosion around the rear shock mounts, and new hardwae was installed when the shocks were mounted. New bump stops too when the H&R springs went in. Car handles nice and tight. It might be getting to be time to do the front shock mounts, but currently the car handles nice and tight, steering is precise, car tracks straight.

Door panels. If you could find a set of beige coupe vinyl door panels, all will be good with the interior. Right now it just looks like grill covers on the door panels.
I'll reiterate the new Polk speakers up front and the Boston Acoustic ones in the back sound very nice.

Title shows 143xxx miles and was accurate when I bought it. The odometer worked for me for about 500 miles, and I was hitting the reset button on it frequently (guess you aren't supposed to do that while driving???) when I started driving the car to see what kind of mileage it got, and now it doesn't work. I have put about 15k miles on it since I started driving it.
So Chassis, about 160k. Engine about 135k.
Ok, going to leave work now, and drive it back up the canyon. Cheers.

          Compression

I forgot to address the compression bit of the questions. The engine I pulled was bad and weak compression in 2 cylinders. The one I put in was much healthier I don't recall the numbers, they are written down somewhere in a box, but they were within 10% of each other, or I wouldn't have bothered putting the motor in.

I think your price is in the right ballpark, but it depends on many factors. There's a red iX here in MN near me for sale for $6500, it's a brillaintrot 1990 (not mine, don't know the seller).

I'd say the most important aspects are does the AWD mechanism work right and how much rust does it have? Being on its second engine might hurt the value a little, but then so would having a bad engine...

^Agreed. I think it's priced fairly but I would suggest cleaning it and borrowing a camera if you have to, in order to get better pictures. Do you have the driver's knee bolster?

I do have the drivers knee bolster, and I do have a nice camera. I guess better pics will go on my list of projects to get completed this weekend.

The AWD most definitely is in top notch working order, where I live we get tons and tons of snow, and my house is on a steep hill. I only got stuck once after the plow had built up like a 3 foot berm and I tried to blast through it coming up the hill in like 8 inches of fresh. Oh and it passes the jack test no problem. And it doesn't leak any anything from anywhere.

So car wash and some better pics are coming. Thanks for the feedback. Got someone coming to look at it here in a few minutes.

Still haven't gotten around to getting better pictures. Had one potential deal fall apart, someone must need some good reliable AWD for winter... come on guys....

As a fellow iXer, this is a very fair price for the overall condition of the car. Might be able to get alittle more for it if you threw it at ebay or elsewhere. If this isn't sold by the spring I might have to look into taking a trip out to utah. GLWS!

                        Update,
                        fixed the drivers window switch.
                        Lubed tracks for driverside window.
Fixed windshield washer jets, (new control unit, and clean contacts on switch.)
New (remanufactured) left front brake caliper, old one was sticking. Thought it'd be good to get a fresh sealed one in before winter hit.
                        New roundel on the trunk.
                        BUMP.

Did you sell the 325iX yet? How many miles did it have on it? Do you have any pictures of the back end?

I have an '88 ix and would not dream of taking less than $5,000 for it, similar shape, heated seats, etc. But not going to sell mine. I can't believe I see these rust bucket hack job e30 m3's for sale @ 16k and you have a nice ix that doesn't get a bite at 5K, when new MSRP was about $1,500 less for the ix. GLWS I pity the fools that don't know a deal when one pops up. Odo is kind of important since the timing belt shouldn't be neglected for more than 50,000 or 4 years according to specs.
