FS: 1983 Westy VW Rabbit 1.6D

I've been slowly working on getting this rabbit that I traded my motorcycle a while back for up and running. And its finally there. While it still needs work(mostly interior and suspension) I figured I'd see what interest I could stir up for it as I am still in school, and in need of sinking money into a car project like I need a hole in my head. That being said I am not entirely sure I want to sell it. But here it goes.

    Issues:
-Alabama car-Flawless shock towers, the only very very minimal rust is on the rear cowl.
-overall straight body with the exception of a dent on the driver side fender that is below the body line and that can most definately be pulled
    -No carpet
    -cracked dash
    -no headliner or card
-front seats are pretty much shot
-was originally an AC car, comes with all the components but not installed
-I can shift into 2,3,4,5 with no issues....having a problem with 1st and reverse but going to work on it tomorrow and should have it sorted out shortly

    Positives:
-27,000 mile 1.6D motor...yep that is correct. Lots and lots of life left! Runs amazing!
-swaped the orig. 4 speed for a 5 speed (150k) trans
    -new front rotors and pads
    -all new belts
    -all new hoses
    -new battery
    -new front axles
    -new thermostat
    -new Luk clutch kit
    -new valve cover gasket
    -new oil pan gasket
    -new oil filter
    -new fuel filter
    -new air filter
    -newer rear main seal
    -newer vaccum pump
    -rebuilt, low milage oil pump
    -new shifter bushings(not yet installed)
-momentary actuating button installed for the glow plugs
-lightly used, smaller aftermarket cooling fan(not yet installed)
    -pop-up sun roof

-also to possibly go with it for the right price, a rear beam that has been sand blasted and painted black with new poly bushings, fitted with new mk3 rear discs for a conversion from drums to disks

Pics reflect how the car was when I first purchased it, not since all the work has been done to do it.

    $3,000- OBO or possible trade

I had the same issue with my mk2. Swap out the shifter bushings and look into the front shifter bracket. 3 inch white plastic piece. I ended up buying the whole short shift rebuild kit for 100.00

Did you change all the linkage parts to the five speed versions? If not, that could be at least part of the problem.

No one wants a clean rust free rabbit!? these things are getting harder and harder to find with out being riddled with rust issues. price is OBO...need to finish up this last semester of school.
