    1991 Mtech with Hardtop

Mtech II For Sale ON HOLD FOR NOW see last post for information

I bought this car on12/19/09 from a good friend in LA with the intension to restore it but other cars have taken priority so it has been driven occasionally in the last couple of years and I have not taken the time to finish the project. I estimate that I have put approximately 5,000 miles on the car since then. The original speedometer was not working and could not be rebuilt. It has 148,820 miles on it. I have rebuilt a speedometer with 161,813 miles on it which is my best guess on the actual mileage but have not installed it yet.

I have the original window sticker from when the car was bought here in California.

My son and I have gone through most of the mechanical systems in the car so it is a solid driver. Here is a breakdown of what has been done and/or the condition of the systems.

The brakes are in good condition and have been flushed yearly with BMW fluid. The power steering hoses have been replaced with new BMW hoses and flushed.

The motor has had the following replaced or service performed:

New catalytic converter and O2 sensor in 2014. Passed smog with good numbers a month ago.

Oil Service every year under 2K miles with Castrol GTX 20W-50
Timing Belt and Adjuster Pulley replaced 1/8/10
    Vacuum Lines replaced10/10/10
    Valve Adjustment 1/26/11
    Compression Test
    1 150/150
    2 150/150
    3 150/150
    4 150/156
    5 149/149
    6 150/148

The fuel system has had the following service performed:

    Fuel Lines replaced 1/8/10
Fuel Pump New (5K Miles +/-)
    Fuel Filter replaced 1/8/10
    Air Filter replaced 1/8/10

The cooling system has had the following service performed:

5 Speed Radiator was installed when we did the 5 speed swap. It is in good condition and has been flushed yearly with BMW coolant.

    Fan Belts replaced 1/14/10
    Hoses replaced1/14/10
    Water Pump replaced 1/14/10
    Thermostat replaced 1/14/10
    Fan clutch replaced 5/20/11
New fan shroud was installed 1/14/10

New spark plugs, cap and rotor were installed 1/25/11

    New Bosh Alternator installed 11/10/11

We installed a 5 Speed in the car on 2/11/2011. This swap was done with every part that could wear replaced. The 5 speed came out of a well maintained low mileage parts car that I had at the time and shifts smooth. We replaced the seals in the transmission and use Redline fluid. We installed a Z3 3.0 short shifter and rebuilt the linkage with all new parts. The clutch has a resurfaced flywheel, new throw out bearing, pressure plate and pivot point. I installed a new Master Cylinder and Slave Cylinder while we were doing the 5 speed swap. The drive shaft was rebuilt on 5/13/13 and has less than 100 miles on it. When it was reinstalled we put in a new Guibo and Center Support bearing.

The rear differential is a 3.73 LSD. The axel boots have not been replaced but do not leak.

The suspension was rebuilt on 4/18/11 with new H&R Sport Springs and Bilstein Sport Shocks. The front shock mounts were replaced with BMW OEM parts and on the rears I used heavy duty mounts (can’t remember who made them). The rear sub-frame bushings have not been replaced but I have a new set that will go with the car. The front end was rebuilt at the same time as the suspension using BMW OEM parts.

The interior has a good dash, glove box, carpet, door cards and center console . I was planning on reupholstering the seats. They are heated seats in the front the drivers seat is black and the passengers seat is dark blue. There is one small tears in the passengers bolster of the passengers front seats and the leather on the back seat is in poor condition with some tears/cracking. There are a brand new set of Mtech door sills installed that will be included in the sale. Included is a Mtech I steering wheel.

The exterior needs paint and some minor bodywork. The drivers rear quarter panel was slightly damaged which was repaired. It appears that something rolling around in the trunk may have smacked the area and caused the filler to crack. I replaced the drivers door due to a large dent but I still have the original door if you would like it. One of the front fenders had been slightly flattened on the bottom from someone trying to run tires that were too large or the wrong offset so I also replaced that with a good fender. I still have the original fender if the buyer would like it. Those parts as well as the new Mtech front valance and original bumper are painted in black primer at this time. The trunk lid has an IS wing on it but I also have a smooth trunk with no tail light that can go with the car.

I will include a factory Hardtop with this sale. The hardtop needs to be refinished but it still has the headliner, which is sagging. I bought all new hardware for the top and also have the new wrench to remove it. The electric soft top does not work and the cloth is wasted. I have a good soft top from a manual top that will go with the car. I also have an extra set of electronics and frame for the electric soft top as well as most of the parts, including the frame to convert it to a manual soft top.

The car has Euro Weaves on it with near new Falken ZE 912 tires. The wheels are in fair condition and I have the caps and they are in good condition but will need to be repainted.

A Bravauto car cover also comes with the car.

Reasonable offers will be considered. I do not have to sell this car but I think it is time, for the cars sake, to let someone else enjoy it and take it to the next level. This car is ready for the person that wants to personalize the car with their choice of colors and interior upholstering knowing that the mechanical side of the car is better than most on the market. I have receipts for the parts listed above and all parts were installed here at our shop with no time spared to make sure things were done right.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I am a master tech for BMW and have assisted in all the maintenance and repairs on this vehicle. Parts were replaced with BMW factory parts (not cheaper alternative parts) with tons of receipts to show for it.

I know I may seem biased but having owned and worked on several BMW's in my years I can say that mechanically this car was not skimped out on. Look at any of our cars and it is clear we build them for us and do not take short cuts.

Anyone out of state has the chance to get a rust free California car that they can drive to what ever state they live in without any drama.

This is a proper FS ad. For people looking for an E30; this is the type of person you want to buy one from. I searched for 6 months to buy a car, and I wish ever seller was as thorough as you. It would've saved me a ton of time and effort.

The car clearly needs some TLC, but has a ton of potential. Good luck with the sale.
