Mileage is important - low mileage goes a long way to overlooking other stuff.

You are not serious about buying 30 year old car then. It is easy to find Alfa romeos, lancias and fiats from 80s in very low mileage, and you know why? because they are total crap, they last 50k miles then quit then they sit in peoples garages and they are brutally cheap and people who own them are cheap too.

I'm very serious. And I'm looking at a lot of stuff. Keep in mind that this is my 'perfect' dream list. I recognize that I may have to sacrifice on something. I will be looking at one soon that is a 64,000 original mile car that appears to be lovingly cared for. There are really nice cars out there.
And you'd be surprised at how hard it can be to find low mileage Alfas, fiats, and lancias. They have a reputation that is largely undeserved, with engine tech that was ahead of their time, especially in comparison to american stuff of the era. There are far more BMWs out there with low miles, simply because there were a LOT more made - added to a high build quality. Don't believe me? Go look for parts support on old Alfas/Fiats/Lancias, and compare to the amazing amount of support e30s receive. That's because there is a demand for businesses to supply to.
To give you an idea of how cheap I am, I built a chassis rotisserie for my Alfa rather than buy one. I'm so cheap I do my own valve jobs on my Ducatis. Even desmoquattros - gasp! I'm so cheap that my Lotus Elise is gutted for track duty rather than pay California registration fees every year. I'm so cheap that I ride motorcycles to work to save on gas. I'm so cheap that I learned to weld/fabricate/paint/wrench so I wouldn't have to pay mechanics to do work with poor attention to detail.
I'm cheap because my family comes first, and anything else I can save means I get to play at the track.
And by the way, Jeremy Clarkson says you can't be a proper petrolhead until you've owned an Alfa. So try driving one before you bash one - brand snob.
Now then... back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Ducati valve job is a pain in the @ss! I did a belt change too a few months ago never again!
Found one - picked it up today. 318 slick top sedan converted to 2.7 stroker, low miles on motor, and a very good suspension build. Paint is an older respray, and there are a number of things to sort. It's not cherry - but it's straight and ready to be cleaned up the rest of the way, and it hauls butt. My two year old has already had a ride and approves.
I'm looking for a 3.73 LSD if anyone has one available. Also a crack free dash, a heater/air con blower motor, and some other odds and ends yet to be discovered.
This one meets my 'streetable track car' mindset and is clean enough that my wife is happy with it.
Thanks for all of you who sent me stuff. There's some good stuff out there.
8)!
I just have to say Motorcade is one of the most enthusiastic and knowledgeable wrench turners I have ever met! Genuinely nice guy and it was great meeting up with him.
He is dead serious about these parts and I would buy or sell to him with confidence. All the best Cade and good luck with what ever mods you are contemplating.
