I purchased this car in September of last year from an Army veteran who was stationed in North Carolina. The car was in Syracuse, NY for two years before I purchased it but had been a NC (and south) car previously. There is some moderate rust under the battery box (pictured) but thats about all I can find. The car has been my daily driver since October and it has ran well for the 10k miles I put on it. I get about 24mpg combined. During my ownership I performed regular maintenance and fixed a few problems. This car is far from perfect (the price reflects that) but it would make a great DD. Here is a list of the of things I replaced.
Repair/maintenance:
-Gates timing belt + tensioner
-All new accessory belts
-Used ZF Reman steering rack (old rack was leaking)
-Odometer gear
-New tail light gasket to remedy trunk leak
-New front pads/rotors
-Coolant flush + new silicone rad hoses
-New tires + alignment @ 135k
-Replaced trans and rear diff fluids
-Oil change
I bought the car with 130k miles on the broken odometer, the previous owner estimated the car had 140k miles when he sold it to me. Currently the odometer reading 139XXX so I estimate about 150k miles on the car.
The previous owner did a few modifications to the car. Here is the list.
Mods:
-Bilstein shocks
-H&R Sport springs
-K&N style air filter
-Kenwood aftermarket radio w/ upgraded speakers (they sound awesome)
-Wired for subwoofer
-Rouge engineering rear shock mounts
-Front strut bar
-DEPO headlights and clear signals
The car runs well and is ready to go for the next owner. The car has a good inspection until the end of Decemeber 2014. This is a legit inspection, I did not pay for illegal stickers. During the emissions test process the car did not pass one of the three (CO's) emissions categories. I believe that means the car is running a bit rich. I'm not quite sure how to fix it and there in no check engine light. I just requested a waiver from the state and they gave me a sticker. I posted a few minor symptoms in a previous thread but those seemed to have disappeared.
I like to be as up front as possible when selling cars, so here is the bad. I'm the 4th owner of the car, the 2nd owner ran the car into a tree and totalled it (so says CarFax). I saw some pictures and the damage was all down the drivers side of the car, it looks like all the panels were replaced on that side along with the drivers window. The unibody looks to be straight and damage free but the car has a reconstructed title. The only thing I can tell that doesn't work on the car is the rear defroster and the brake lining light (I pulled it when I fixed the odometer).
Overall the car would be a great daily driver. The heat works well and the AC blows cold. It runs and drives smoothly, gets decent MPG too! I am selling because I just bought a Miata and don't need two cars.
