I put this 'vert out there a few months ago for $1000 and got crickets. Now the City is after me to get this unregistered car out of my driveway by the 12th of this month, so it's gotta go. Six hundred bucks. Too much? Talk me down, I just might listen. This is a screaming deal.
If this car doesn't sell by the 12th I'm going to have to either junk it (no time to part it) or donate it to NPR.
Here's a cut and paste fro the original ad:
This is a motor swap project car that I’m just not going to get around to completing. It’s a great starting point to build up to your liking, as it’s all bone stock as it sits. Or it’s just parts. The complete M42 drivetrain is still in there with a broken timing chain and lapped valves/pistons. In case that’s not clear:
Car does not run, and will have to towed or trailered.
General info:
171,735 miles (odo has always worked)
VIN WBABA4314MEJ11997
US Market 318i
Color 266 Lagunengruen Met
Interior 0193 Beige vinyl
Black manual top (ok shape, has a couple of holes in LR quarter)
5 Speed (2nd gear synchro is worn)
Production date 06/26/91
Open diff (replacement)
Air Con (works, blows cool)
Wired for fogs, but lamps missing
Aftermarket stereo (Blaupunkt)
Exhaust not installed, but almost new Bosal cat-back included
Plusses:
Very clean, low-rust body. 2 rust spots: one at the front edge of LR wheelwell and at the bottom of the RR valence below where water accumulates in the dampner tray. Rockers are dry, clean and straight.
No cracks in dash.
Front seats have hairline cracks in vinyl, but no splits.
Minuses:
As noted above, M42 is toast.
Needs paint. Clearcoat on hood has failed, trunk clearcoat is failing. Parallel parking dent in RF fender is pulled out but paint is cracked and chipped (see pics).
RR bumper corner was shattered and glued back together (see pics).
Suspension (bone stock) is rubbish. One front strut is leaking, tie rods are wobbly, one control arm has split boot. Anything made of rubber needs to be replaced.
Power steering rack leaks.
Dead battery.
Central locking works, but not from driver’s side – key will not enter lock.
Rear seat top has quarter size hole.
PO painted tail lights with red paint that has almost (but not quite) disintegrated.
Needs foglight assemblies. Screw receivers in place.
Needs front valence lip. All plastic clips are there.
Mismatched stock size tires: Michelins up front, Tiger Paw somethingorother rear.
Anything not mentioned here works fine, such as diff, windows, etc.
So, yeah, this car needs a bunch of time, love and money, all of which I’m currently devoting to an E9 project, and I’m running low. The $1,000 asking price is obo, and will be advertised locally on CL.
Car is located in Charlottesville VA. I will help your shipper to get it on a truck, but a tractor trailer/semi will NOT be able get through the narrow streets in our neighborhood to get to the car. A straight truck or trailered pickup will have no problem. Email is the best way to reach me.
Pics are here in the original thread:
Bonus: I also want the 15x6.5 Kopis that I advertised a few months ago gone as well. I was originally asking $650 for them. Buy the car for $600 and I'll sell the Kopis for $400. Link to Kopi ad:
