So I'd always wanted a 325ix, and I got one years ago with around 210k miles on it. I've since tacked on another 20. I brought it back from death and it's always treated me well. 160psi (+/- 5) on all cylinders, and just passed smog. I'm selling it to fund my 944 Turbo. I won't lie it's not the cleanest car in the world. It needs a lot of little stuff that I'm sure all E30's do.
SORRY TO EVERYONE WHO RESPONDED BEFORE. THE CAR IS NOW DEFINITELY FOR SALE UNLESS I HIT THE LOTTO BETWEEN NOW AND WHEN IT SELLS.
Update 3/11/2015 - I forgot to mention one of the "negatives" about the car. A couple years ago I let a friend drive it around. He tried to shift into 4th, and when it wouldn't go in he gave the shifter a good yank or two (before I could stop him). As a result, you can't downshift from 5th to 4th without bumping the shifter up toward 3rd gear first. 5 -> 4 it's like there's a wood block stopping you. 5 ->move it toward third -> 4 and it drops right in like it's supposed to. I will be including a replacement transmission from a low mileage iX along with the car. It's totally driveable the way it is. No other gears are effected
Located in the SF Bay Area, btw.
In the last 5 years I've had the car, it's gotten:
*Koni adjustable shocks, HR springs (these are now installed)
*Sway Bar Bushings and end links
*225/50/15 tires with about 10k miles on them, stock wheels
*Front CV Boots inner and outer
*Driveshaft spacer
*Hawk HPS pads (they stop very well)
*New Guibo on driveshaft
*Miller MAF and 19# injectors
*Tie Rods (whole assembly)
*Control arm ball joints
*Control arm Bushings
*Clutch with a Z3 shifter
*head gasket (it was leaking just a tiny bit of oil into the coolant system)
*Catalytic Converter
*Full Tuneup: 02, coolant temp sensor, plugs, cap/rotor/fuel filter
*Fluid change on front diff, rear diff, transmission, transfer case
*Timing belt, water pump, and other drive belts
*Valve cover gasket, including new half-moons
Here's the bad:
*e-brake shoes need to be put back together. I have the components for it, just never put it all in.
*Oil level sender unit shows that it needs oil all the time, I'm guessing the float is stuck
*Some surface rust underneath but no cancer, and nothing to be concerned about
*See above notes about shifting from 5th to 4th. I'll be including another transmission, and this doesn't really effect your ability to drive it.
*The seats need a rebuild. They adjust well enough but the shocks to recline are gone, and the rear caps are kind of chewed up. They were recovered and still in great shape, though.
*Wiper linkage isn't great.
Body is probably an 8 out of 10. Needs some cleanup in places but overall it's straight. Has a fresh spray of Satin black that was supposed to tide me over until a factory re-spray job. Most of the mechanical work was done by Ryan Gangemi of RGMW in Auburn.
Interior is about the same, maybe closer to a 7. The front sport seats don't match the rear vinyl, but they're in good condition.
The AWD works. It's had matching tires on it since I got it, it's been well maintained, and I did a jack test about 6 months ago.
I drive it to Reno for Thanksgiving once a year, and wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere else. It's always been an amazing car to me, and even though it had a rough past, I think I've treated it well and it's never given me any issues.
I'm looking for fair offers. I'd even consider low-ish offers if I knew it was going someplace where it would be cared for. I'm only considering selling it because I picked up a Porsche as a project car and I never even drive my poor BMW. I have 3 other cars already and since I'm not made of money, it might be time for someone else to enjoy the best AWD out there.
I'd like to get $3800 if you smog it, $4000 if I remove the MAF and injectors and smog it for you (I'd include the MAF and injectors, of course.)
