I'm selling my grey market 1984 BMW 323i. The 323i was never sold in the U.S., the previous owner told me this one was imported from Spain to California in the 80's. The car has been in California/Arizona since import, it is rust free. It is a 2.3 litre straight 6 m20 motor with a 5 speed manual transmission. These cars are some of the rarest E30s in the U.S. since very few were ever brought in from Europe. Car has only had it's oil changed with Mobil 1 since I've owned it. Clean Title. Car is not in show condition obviously, the paint is not the best and it could use a re-spray. Motor and transmission run flawlessly with no leaks, though cold starts require you to hold the gas down until at operational temp, probably due to a sticky aux air valve, though it has never been a problem for me. The car was my daily driver at one point and has never left me stranded, recently driven from Phoenix to San Diego, five hours no trouble. The car has A/C (Air Conditioning) but the belt isn't on it because I drive with the windows down and never use it, so it hasn't been converted to the new coolant... but the parts are there and it's a fairly easy upgrade.
Things that were replaced in the last 6 months:
All seats re-upholstered
Hood Emblem, Trunk emblem (got them for free, have the stock ones but they're worn)
Door Handles
Spark Plugs
Key
Shifter Boot M3
Rear Diff Fluid
Oil Drain Plug (Magnetic)
Antifreeze
Water Wetter
Shift Knob (Nardi, Walnut)
Antenna and Antenna Motor
Head Unit (Pioneer, Bluetooth and IPOD integrated)
Speakers (Clarion)
Parts I have, but haven't put on the car yet:
Brand new (in box) front apron (#51711933402-1) because I bought the wrong valence for it
Hood Shock
Control Arms
Tie Rods
Almost all the front trim of the euro bumper (parts I had shipped in were missing a piece, so I left it all off)
All Suspension Bushings
Alternator Bushings
Vacuum Lines
Oil Pressure Sensor
Coolant Temp Sensor
Those last two are pretty much the only issues with the car. Temp gauge doesn't work, and the oil pressure sensor throws the associated overhead warning light. Again, nothing huge, just nit-picky. The odometer does not work, but when I had the car appraised before purchase, I was told under 150k. The drive-shaft feels like it has a bit of vibration in it, but I haven't had the lift to check it out for a while. The dash has two cracks, and weather seals are starting to go after thirty years, but nothing crazy. Like, literally, this is all I can think of that's wrong with the car.
I will also be including a brand new (still in box atm) set of grey TR C1's that I was going to use for track wheels, but never had the chance. They're worth about $500
Here's a link for photos of the car. They ended up huge when attached directly to the thread, sorry.
I bought this car last year with the intention of swapping out the motor and building it from there. The reason I am selling it is because I was recently laid off from my job and will have to be downsizing to a smaller place that won't have room for three cars. I hate losing this car. Really, actually hate it. $5000 is no where near what I paid+put into it after the upholstery and de-Americanizing the front end back to stock, but it's what I need for a down payment on a new place, and it seems fair for the quality she is in.
I would like her to go to someone who will baby her like I have if at all possible. Let me know if you have any questions. I can also be reached more quickly at 602-377-9728, but texting is preferred, as I've been looking for a new job/place lately and don't really have a set schedule.
