1988 320i Touring Project in California

    SOLDSOLDSOLD

Putting my E30 touring project up for sale. The motor was swapped to a US M20B25 but the new engine is having oiling problems, and I don't have time to replace it again so it's for sale as a project car.

Since the motor went out on me before inspection the car is sold with an incomplete CA title, inspection at a testing laboratory in Santa Ana is still required to finish the title process and get license plates, or title the car in another state with much less hassle.

Registration is paid through 2015 and the car is on temp tags/moving permits. All paperwork and info will be passed on to the buyer so they can finish the process. To the best of my knowledge the basic info on what will need to happen to complete the titling is: the engine will need to be changed to a US spec engine with all necessary smog equipment transferred over if you do an engine change. If you do another m20b25 it should be good to go with its current emissions equipment. Please be aware that the emissions inspection is much more stringent than any normal smog or even a B.A.R. inspected engine swap. The car goes to an emissions laboratory, where it is put through a number of tests to ensure compliance with CA emissions regulations of the year that the replacement engine was produced in. Please be aware the costs of the laboratory testing can vary, but can be high if the laboratory has to modify the vehicle to pass.

    Details on the vehicle:

    1988 320i
    Manual Transmission
    Alpine White II/Black Leather
    211,883 km (131,658 miles)
Current engine with the oiling problem is a 1990 m20b25. The original m20b20, which ran great when it was pulled will be included.
    No AC
Power front windows, manual rear windows
    Price is $9,500

Car is in very good condition cosmetically, especially compared to most E30s and even more so for imported tourings from Germany where they get a lot of rust. Very minimal rust, no rust in the tailgate like most tourings and no rust on the underbody of the chassis. There is some slight surface rust starting at the bottom of the drivers side fender and the inside bottom of the drivers door has surface rust that should be treated. Other than one 2 inch dent on the hood that was picked up in shipping the vehicle is in very good condition, barely any rock chips. Interior is black leather heated seats in good condition, no rips or tears just some cracks from age, but the leather is soft and supple still.

All the euro goodies are in good shape: smilies are great, jerry can in the spare tire, tool kit is complete.

The car is mostly original, the previous owner added a few electronics though. He added a Becker DTM radio with navigation, keyless entry, bluetooth, ipod hookup, temp sensors and temp display, subwoofers in the back, and chrome rings on the euro cluster.

Contact me for more info or to see the car. Located in Benicia, CA.

I'm happy to take offers but don't lowball me too much on the price, I'm only breaking even on the costs of the car and importing it and losing out on the money I sunk into the bad engine and all the new parts I put on it. Will also take partial trade plus cash for a pickup truck in the $2k price range.

Well it started making valve train noise, I checked on the valve adjustment and everything seemed fine so I took it to Adrian over at M Service Garage and the noise just got worse and it started to have a knocking noise in the bottom end. He said he thought either the oil pump was having problems or there were blocked oil passages. Either way he said it would require a full teardown to inspect it and figure out what was going on, but that it was pretty much too far gone to save. And I don't have the money or time to rebuild or replace so sadly I figured I would just list it as is.

You should update the first post stating the car has been Sold, so as not to get people's hopes up.
