OK gang, it's official. Gonna sell the e30 coupe and try to find a convertible. I'm only posting it here and eBay, not doing Craigslist. Price is $5500.
Color is lapis blau. Go here for all pictures: https://www.flickr.com/photos/131920829@N02/?
Here's the build thread/history:
• Replaced 2.73 factory open differential with 3.73 limited slip diff
• Installed Turner performance chip
• Replaced factory steering rack with Z3 rack, taking turning radius from 4.0 to 1.8 (crazy responsive handling)
• Replaced hoses, gaskets and most of the fuel delivery system- fuel pressure regulator, fuel rail, fuel injectors
• Installed new timing belt, alternator, sparkplugs and plug lines
• New clutch, master cylinder and slave cylinder and guibo
• New seals throughout transmission
• Deleted factory suspension, installed Eibach springs and Bilstein sport shock suspension setup
• Hard to find Alpina rep wheels come with it
• Filled, prepped, sanded and painted front valance
• Ripped out interior down to metal, sanded out rust spots, spot-welded holes
• Covered all exposed interior metal and undercarriage with POR-15 (oxidizes rust, protects metal)
• Replaced factory base model blue vinyl interior and door panels with tan leatherette interior, black and tan door panels
• Interior is immaculate, 9.5/10. Have both comfort and sports seat sets in tan color, I switch them out depending on my mood
• Exterior body is 8.5/10, NO RUST, just a couple of paint chips here and there from age, road rocks
• Replaced factory steering wheel with MTech 3 spoke
• Updated air conditioning system to modern standard
• Drilled out bumper shocks, pushed them in for Euro look
• Installed BMW premium audio system speakers, but replaced deck for modern audio setup w/Bluetooth, etc- prewired for subwoofer in trunk
• Used TR-3 to remove old, oxidized paint and bring back old shine
I bought the car in December of 2012, it had 136,000 miles on it. Today it has 140,250. It came with a lot of the old records- original owners, bills of sale and maintenance records, even the original manual and cassette tapes from the BMW factory. It's an '84e and according to the records, was shipped to the USA in '83 making it among the first to reach our virgin shores. I will be putting the factory headlight set back on, but if you want it with the "Johnny 5s", that can be arranged.
Now for what’s left to do. I have been taking the car to McNeeley Motorsports here in Charlotte for checkups and to help me anticipate my future spending.
They estimate I’ll need:
• Brakes within 5,000 miles
• Replace control arm bushings within 5,000 miles
So not too bad, considering these are things you may be able to do yourself.
Let me know if any of you are down. I am just outside of Charlotte, NC in Fort Mill, SC.
