Bought my first E30 back a few months ago, and now the M3 just sits in the carport. Time to let it move on to a new home!
1998 BMW M3 4-door 5-speed manual. Vehicle is Hellrot red with black leather interior. 157k miles, equipped with power sunroof, factory spoiler, power door locks, power windows, power and heated mirrors, heated seats with manual adjustment, cold A/C, hot heat, and folding rear seats (rare for the M3 sedans.) Everything on the car works; cruise control, all 10 speakers (all new), all power accessories, all LED's on the on-board computer, etc. Vehicle has a few tasteful modifications:
B&B Triflow exhaust
ASC delete (via MZ3 intake boot)
Megan Euro 32-way dampening adjustable coilovers with camber plates
M3 convertible lower x-brace
Z3 rear shock mount reinforcement plates
Powerflex front control arm bushings
Powerflex trailing arm bushings
18x8 M-Parallel wheels
Black Forest Industries heavy-weight leather shift knob
DJ Auto euro glass headlight set with 5000k HID's
Shadowline kidney grille set
Lots of maintenance completed within the last 25k miles; control arms, full tie rods, driveshaft center support bearing and guibo, 02 sensors, spark plugs, valve cover gasket, and more. The cooling system was properly overhauled with an aluminum thermostat housing, new hoses, metal impeller water pump, and upgraded aluminum radiator. Brand new coated slotted/drilled rotors with ceramic pads on all four corners. Have a 3-page word document of all the maintenance over the last few years. Engine runs beautifully, and no leaks present. Transmission shifts smoothly, no noise from the differential/drivetrain.
Interior is in very nice condition overall. Front seats have an average amount of wear, but are still soft/supple and present very nicely. Dash and carpet are perfect, door panels are not de-laminating, rear seats are mint, and the headliner was recently re-finished. Full factory tool kit, trunk trim, etc. Glovebox lid is sagging slightly, but I'll likely address that this coming week. Driver's front seat has a very small hole on the outer bolster, passenger front seat has a dry spot on the lower center section.
Body is in very good condition as well; very few minor dings/scratches, no rust, and the paint shows very nicely. The rear wing just began to have a spot of clearcoat peeling, and the passenger side rear view mirror is oddly faded. Fenders have been professionally rolled, but not "pulled", so they maintain their factory appearance, and no paint chipping/damage is present. The 18" M-parallels tuck in quite nicely, as did the 18x8.5 BBS CH's that were on the car previously.
A few things to note in it's current condition:
The M-parallels are in need of refinishing (clear/paint flaking on two wheels), and a couple of them have bends on the inner barrels. They balance out fairly well, however there is a slight vibration felt right at 65mph, which smooths out again at higher speeds. The tires are quite new all-around, but I do also have a set of the original staggered DS-II's if the buyer would prefer them. Tires on the DS-II's have tread, but are old and getting fairly hard. DS-II's are in nice shape overall, recently re-painted.
Shift bushings are due for replacement. Still shifts fine and smoothly, but there's definitely some slop in the shifter compared to my E30.
Check engine light will come on after a long highway drive (70mph +), always the same singular fault related to the charcoal canister. Only comes on during an extended drive at speed, and will clear itself again within 35-40 miles, or 3-4 key cycles. My commute is on a highway with 60mph limit, so the fault has only come on with my trips out of town. The previous owner cleaned out the canister itself, and said it was fault free for the next year or so. Could likely clean it out again, or just replace the canister entirely (located in the spare tire well.)
That's it! Everything works like it should, the car runs and drives very well, and ultimately needs nothing to continue being an excellent daily driver.
