    E30 S52 Race Car for sale-SOLD

    SOLD!

E30 Race Car With S52 swap. Currently set up for NASA PT or TT. Could easily run GTS, or with some swapping an M20 and other parts, Spec E30. I haven't kept up with classing/ rulesets lately, so there may be other possibilities as well. Exterior pics show car with numbers when it was M20 powered. Numbers are removed now, as I have only instructed with the car for past couple of years.
    BODY: '87 325IS
Started with low miles (106,000), never wrecked, very clean and straight to begin with. 109,XXX miles now. Originally built for spec E30, but changed to PTD when it still had the M20 engine.
Updated to plastic bumpers front and rear. Have spare front hood, rear trunk lid, and spare rear plastic bumper. Still have the original diving boards and front valance with air dam (as spares) held by 1/4 turn Camloc fasteners for easy install/removal.
Any wiring done was soldered and shrink-wrapped, in original color codes. Most of HVAC box removed, but retains stock heater core with lighter, simplified heat/defrost system that works well.
Outside mirrors were removed to use inside mounted convex mirrors, and are included if you'd prefer the stock setup.
    DRIVETRAIN:
Stock S52 (with 138K on it now) with M50 manifold installed after head gasket changed, head cleaned, checked for level and cracks. All was well. All new tensioner pulleys, Stewart water pump, new belts, etc. Full OBD2 conversion, so you can plug in an OBD2 reader to pull codes, stream live data, etc. The wiring done was documented, and was done so that wire pin reassignments were only done to the engine side of the harness, so if one wanted to swap an M20 back in ( for spec e30 or something), the new engine harness should just plug into the chassis harness like usual. EWS deleted. Runs GREAT. Electric pusher fan installed, and is thermostatically controlled, but also has manual override button on dash. 2 ½”exhaust from stock collector back that fits well. Very quiet. I would sometimes run around the neighborhood testing, and didn't want to tick off the neighbors! You could easily make it louder if you want to remove the rear muffler. Oil temp gauge on dash with switchable input from engine or diff. Engine temp is rock steady always-I datalog it. No leaks.
New fuel filter. Uses stock style external fuel pump, so easy to access if you ever need to. Fuel pickup system seems to work very well-never starves for gas until below empty. Have a spare longer range fuel tank from later E30 if you want it for enduros and such.
Transmission (G260) has lightened flywheel and mild short shifter and shifts easily/perfectly. No noises. Vent tube and breather were installed-never leaks a drop. All clutch components were replaced-clutch is strong and smooth.
Current diff is a 4.10 LSD with 4 discs (fresh). Pulls great (really quick/zippy) out of tight turns. Finned rear cover and additional fins for heat dissipation. Catch can installed in trunk. Diff temp sensor with gauge on dash. Synthetic fluids only (likewise for engine and trans). Spare 3.73 LSD included.
    SAFETY:
8-point custom cage by Izzy's Custom Cages. Painted cage and interior. Legal rollbar padding. Sunroof cartridge removed and sunroof skinned over with steel panel bonded and riveted in place. No leaks and very strong. Sparco Evo driver's seat on Massive Brakes seat mounts and E30 sliders. Seat back brace is adjustable to allow seat sliding. Passenger seat is installed for instructing DEs, as that's all I've done with it lately. Sparco 6-point harnesses (Hans-compatible type) are current until 2014 and 2015, so would need re-webbed soon if racing, as would right-side drivers net and window net. I need to check the dates on those, but assume they'll need rewebbed. Electrical kill switch and the central fire system are both accessible to driver and outside crew.
    SUSPENSION/BRAKES:
New front hubs and bearings. New rear wheel bearings. Bilstein sport shocks F&R with 550 F/700 Rear Ground Control springs and adjusters. The front adjusters are dialed all the way down to sit on the stock spring perches, so that Spec E30 springs could be easily re-installed. Stock sway bars are installed, and the spring rates were selected with them in mind. Handles very well-neutral and controllable-no surprises. Vorshlag camber plates and upper spring perches. Newer front control arms and tie rod ends. Delrin LCA Bearings. Newer UUC big brake kit in front. Hawk HT-10 pads front and rear. Complete set of new, unused front rotors and pads for the big brake kit included as spares. All new OEM BMW brake lines. The rear calipers are fairly new, as are the spare front calipers that were removed. Very nice cooling ducts to custom backing plates. Vorshlag wheel studs. AKG rear subframe bushings, welded-in I.E. "Posi-Lock" (the good ones) rear caster/camber adjusters. Monoball rear upper shock mounts. Rear shock mounts are reinforced, (if one wanted to go to true coilover rear) as are front subframe, rear sway bar mounts, and sway bar link tabs on the trailing arms. Corner weights adjusted to within 0.3% points with 190 lb. driver.
    WHEELS:
TR Motorsport 15X8 (set of 5) with RA1s on them. 1/2 life left. Another set of Kosei 15" K1s with rain tires (almost brand new Yokohama S Drives) on them. Third set is 14" bottlecaps, but those won't fit over the front brakes. Also have a set of 4 Nitto NT01s not mounted that have a a couple weekends left in them.
    GENERAL:
Car weighs around 2680-2700 with 1/4 tank of gas and me (180 lbs) in it, so probably about 2500 lbs. empty. More weight could easily come out, but as it is, would be easy to bring up to Spec E30 weight by putting spare tire back in, etc. Hardwired transponder installed. Car has never been crashed, and has no rust. The dash is even uncracked (although cut for the cage-sorry concours guys).
The data system (RLC Racing) is very nice-has lots of different lap timing functions obviously, but also draws its own track maps, logs A/F ratio, oil pressure, coolant temp, battery volts, what gear car was in, etc. That company is no longer in business unfortunately, but the system is trouble free. I wouldn't mind keeping the data system, so if buyer doesn't want it, I'll knock off $1000.
I built this car to be fun, fast and dead reliable, using the best stuff I could (legally) run. Built and maintained with an open checkbook. It has been absolutely reliable, and lots of fun. However, I now have a new project, and am looking to reduce number of vehicles (selling the tow vehicle and possibly the trailer). Looking for $13K or reasonable near offer, all spares included, and with the data system. Located near St. Louis, MO, and I can help with delivery within 100 miles or so. Also willing to ship, so you can get shipping quotes based on 62236 or 62239.

I know Ken personally and he takes great care of his equipment. You should have no concerns with anything he has stated.

Nice. And very reasonable price. Mine is almost identical less the full cage and I am already $20k plus into it. Did you ever dyno'ed it? Also, how did you fit TRM wheels with UUC BBK? When I installed mine I had to run bigger wheels, went with APEX 17'' wheels.

Thanks! I only had it dynoed when I had the M20 in it. I do wish I had a dyno for it now-its a LOT stronger!
For the brakes, I slightly radiused the outer edge of the caliper (after consulting with Rob L. about that area). Instead of a sharp edge, it now has a "rounded" edge to it. Also, a very thin spacer is used, so that the hub is still self-centering. Finally, I make sure that any wheel weights inside the spokes are pushed as far as possible "outboard" toward the spokes, and I use aluminum tape to make sure they stay there.

Yup. A local guy who has seen it up close at a few DEs before.
