It is with a heavy heart I put my 1987 BMW 325is M-Tech 1 up for sale after more than 20 years of ownership. Bought her in January 1994 from the local dealer. Original owner was apparently an attorney from the East Coast who took excellent care of her -- had something like 75,000 miles on the clock when I bought her and she looked almost showroom, so I'm assuming a lot of that was highway miles.
Fast forward to today: I'm semi-retired, living on a sailboat back in Honolulu and, as much as I love this car, I have two other, less worthy classics (plus a motorcycle), and it's clear one member of the fleet has to go. After much reflection, I decided to part with the lovely E30 as I came to the sad conclusion I just can't take care of her the way I used to when I had a house and a garage, and I'd hate to see her start to suffer from any neglect. So I'm looking for someone to whom to pass the torch … someone who appreciates these brilliant cars and will give her a good home and the care and attention she deserves.
That new owner will take possession of a well cared-for and appreciated E30 with a lengthy list of tasteful modifications, most of which came from Munich. (P.S. Don’t bother to make offers on individual components installed on the car – not gonna happen) To wit:
Engine/drivetrain
Jim Conforti performance chip (car has ALWAYS run on name-brand premium fuel)
173 ECU from '89 325i
K/N drop-in air filter
Ansa free-flow exhaust (20 years old -- needs to be replaced)
Dinan VDO gauge package (white needle oil temperature/oil pressure/volt meter)
"T" fitting for oil pressure sender (maintains oil pressure dash warning)
Suspension
Dinan Stage 2 suspension (springs/struts/shocks/sway bars)
Sway-bar link reinforcements welded onto rear trailing arms (Dinan kit component)
E30 M3 solid offset control arm bushings
Front and rear Racing Dynamics stress bars
Upgraded rear shock mounts
Brakes
Front: cross-drilled and slotted (machined from factory vented rotors)
Rear: stock diameter slotted (machined from factory vented rotors)
Repco pads
Stainless steel lines (6)

This adult-owned Bavarian classic boasts virtually all of the factory items E30 enthusiasts wish they had on their own cars, principally the glass moonroof, Euro bumpers and M-Tech 1 components, M-Tech 2 steering wheel, large tool kit, lighted rear-view mirror and genuine euroweaves, plus a realistically lowered suspension package from a respected tuner, upgraded brake components and myriad other improvements to what many enthusiasts consider the overall best BMW model ever built.
Car is in excellent mechanical condition, and if I was on the mainland, I wouldn't hesitate to drive her cross-country first thing tomorrow.
Behind the wheel, this almost 30-year-old E30 looks almost showroom from a few feet away, and the E30 M3 interior is one or two minor jobs away from looking like she just came home from the dealer. Tires match and are almost new; she starts right up, drives like a champ and runs cool with the A/C cranked (BTW, system was just recharged last month). Some specifics:
