I recently picked up a ratty '91 318iS to build up for my nephew. It's actually a nice little ride. Low mileage, Brilliantrot, black vinyl (comfort) seats, tan interior. Turns out that he wants something a little more stylish. Punk even left me holding the bag.
No biggie, it's a fun little car. If nobody here wants it I'll fix it up and flip it in the spring. Odo is broken, but only shows 144K miles. I know that the car is pretty rough but it's almost perfectly stock. Full set of 14" basketweaves along with all four matching hub caps. Trunk lip spoiler too. The car is missing some original parts (like the sport seats ) but it's never been molested. Most of the tools are even there, including the original BBS hubcap socket tool!
Dash is cracked, front seats are black vinyl comforts. Crank sunroof. I'd expect the A/C is probably dead, fan only works on high. Original 4.10 open diff, springs & old KYB struts.
But...under all the dust & peeling clearcoat, the car is surprisingly solid. Electronics all seem to work. Frame rails are clean. There is some rust perforation on the driver's side, but a rust repair panel would take care of that. Water leaks into the trunk have started a little rust under the battery tray but the trunk is pretty clean otherwise. The hood has been replaced and driver's side show evidence of past repairs. Rear bumper is cracked and a towing incident cracked the front bumper cover and mashed up the front driver's quarter a bit.
The rear exhaust section is wasted, cracked at the flange, garbage muffler, etc.. The car is a little loud, but it starts & runs.
So expect to find a project car. I wouldn't recommend driving any distance at highway speeds. It urgently needs tires and the brakes are on the soft side. I'll fix a lot of that when I'm up in Chicago next time, but as for now I'd strongly recommend a trailer. I can probably assist with transport. I think it's priced fairly. Although I'm fairly firm on price, there's some wiggle room for reasonable offers.
