    CT: 1991 318is M50 Brilliantrot Sold

For sale is my old 1991 318is. A friend gave this car to me for my birthday in 2008 after a valve destroyed the original M42. I brought the car back to life and swapped in a 1992 M50 non-vanos motor. The original build is documented here:

I sold the car to a forum member in 2010 after moving to NYC. Here's a link to the listing back in 2010: http://bit.ly/1l3F9uQ and I bought the car back. Here are the current stats:

    The Car:
    1991 318is
    239,XXX miles
    Clean title
    All service records since 1991
Original vin tags present on all panels except the hood
    VIN: WBAAF9310MEE72154

    Engine + Drivetrain:
    1992 M50 non-vanos 24 valve (Video: http://bit.ly/1PpBSCF)
    Supersprint replica headers
    2.5'' exhaust with resonators
    Vibrant single in/out muffler
    M20 325i/s lightened flywheel
    M20 325i/s Sachs clutch
    Euro 323i TOB
    E34 525 oil pan
    Delrin shift bushings
    E36 325i driveshaft
    4.10 LSD
    E21 320i trans mounts
    E28 535i motor mounts
    SPAL electric fan
Intercooler installed, was intended for future turbo setup

    Suspension + Steering:
    JOM adjustable coilover shocks/springs
    Stock brakes
    E21 Brake booster
Steering rack replaced within last few years

    Interior:
    Leather M-tech I steering wheel
Stock 318is black vinyl sport seats
    Beautiful dash
    Perfect glove box
    Old timey crank-sunroof
Passenger seat recline does not function
    ZHP weighted shift knob
    M3 black floor mats
Alpine CDE-102 with aux and iPhone cable
Stereo pre-wired to trunk for amp/sub setup if desired
Black dyed carpet (original 318is carpet)
    Hot heat
    No AC

    Body:
All original panels except the hood
Hood is OEM, (vin tag from another car)
Driver fender needs replacing (treated lower portion with rust converter)
Passenger lower fender starting to rust
Classic rear battery box/valence rust (treated with rust converter)
    No rust at marker lights
Paint is original except the hood
Recently machine polished the whole car

    Other:
    Race Skids M50 skid plate
    New K&N filter just installed
    New BEHR 318is radiator/expansion tank
    New Bosch starter
    Depo Euro Ellips
    OEM Euro Grills
    iS front spoiler

The issue is that the car overheats, but it still runs and drives. I did a compression test and found low compression on two adjacent cylinders, numbers 4+5. This is a classic sign that the head gasket is leaking between those two cylinders, and that is what I suspect needs to be repaired. Compression test video here: http://bit.ly/1TpndWT

I don't have time to repair or room to store the car once the snow comes. Playing with these cars is a hobby and passion of mine, but I have to let one go. This would be a great project for someone with some time to invest. Still a great little car that turns heads every time you drive it!

Few issues fixed, seems like it would be a solid car.
Oh also what did you use to dye the carpet? Vht? How are the results?

Do you think that the overheating is the symptom or cause of the head gasket?
