    1991 Brilliantrot 318is - No Longer Available

    1991 Brilliantrot 318is

Putting out feelers for my 1991 318IS. I love this car and have had it for about four years, but I am not able to drive it as much as I'd like to. I'm not in any hurry to sell this car, and really I'm not even sure I want to get rid of it yet. After searching for about a year to find an E30 in the Midwest, I gave up and flew to Southern California to find this rust free example.

    Engine:
    - Entire timing chain system overhaul last year. New chain, cam gears, idler sprocket, crank sprocket, new guides, tensioner, crankshaft seal, gaskets, etc. Should last another 10-15 years.
    - Motor mounts replaced when I bought the car.
    - New radiator, thermostat, and thermostat housing. BMW coolant and Redline water wetter.
    - Mobil 1 synthetic 15-50 was used exclusively for the past 5 or 6 years.
    - Turner Conforti chip and intake timing advanced.
    - Stock exhaust with Dynomax muffler.

    Chassis/driveline:
    - H&R springs with Bilstein Sport shocks, as well as E90 drop hats to lower the front end slightly without cutting springs.
    - E46 Clubsport steering rack.
    - M3 swaybar links/tabs welded to the strut body as well as M3 strut mounts.
    - New brake rotors and Stoptech Street Performance pads all around about a year and a half ago as well as a complete brake/clutch fluid flush with ATE DOT 4.
    - Differential and transmission fluid were flushed with Redline fluids around 5K miles ago.
    - Garagistic rear shock tower reinforcements.
    - HIK Fab severe duty skid plate.
    - Z3 short shifter
    - Clutch stop
    - Lightened flywheel and clutch disc/pressure plate replaced 4 years ago
    - Rebuilt half shafts
    - 16 inch Kosei K1s with E30 specific center bore and offset. (I've looked everywhere online and have seen no mention of another set of these wheels in this fitment. I'm actually really curious to know if anyone here has a set or knows anything about them.)
    - Motorsports hardware extended bullet-nose stud conversion

    Exterior/interior:
    - Delrin shift knob made by ROBSGOTIT
    - Volvo front lip
    - HID headlight conversion with Hella Smiley headlights
    - Recently repainted factory Brilliantrot
    - Kenwood Bluetooth head unit
    - Replaced broken odometer gears
    - Leather driver's side sport seat, vinyl passenger sports seat

I also have some extras that go with the car that I was planning on installing this year to more or less finish the car:
    - 3.73 limited slip differential. The 4.10 that's in the car is fun around town, but I wanted something more balanced for the highway. This also includes a Powerflex bushing.
    - AC compressor. The current AC compressor works and was converted to R134, but the pulley rattled so the belt has been cut. The new one came off a low mileage engine.
    - Wire cup holder
    - Badwella DSSR(dual shear selector rod) and Garagistic shift bushing kit
    - Trunk tool kit.
    - Momo steering wheel hub
    - Miscellaneous odds and ends/spare parts

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things, but I have receipts for everything dating back to the previous owner before me. The car is estimated to have a little over ~200k on the body, but the odometer was broken so exact mileage is unknown. The car is stored indoors during the winter but wasn't taken out this summer due to a lack of parking at my house. The car has no rust and the exterior looks great. The interior looks decent, but it would be the next area I would address to really finish off the car. There's a couple tears in the sunroof fabric, dash has some cracks, and the screen for the OBC just went out.

If you guys want specific pictures or info, let me know. I'd really like to see this car go to a good home.

    List Date: 8/18/2016

I'll have to dig around and try to find the vin. I'd estimate over 200k but I'm not sure. The odometer was broken and I'm pretty sure the cluster was swapped. I had the history report at one point which showed the car never being in an accident, but the mileage reports were really erratic and inconsistent.

Star spec Z1s. Very sticky compared to the Falkens I had before and they do pretty well in the rain too. And yeah, I feel like I'm captaining a ship with the huge airbag wheel haha. That's why I have the Momo hub, just never got around to choosing a wheel.

The vin is WBAAF9319MEE66269. For transparency's sake, I ran the history report again for anyone interested since I lost the original one. The history report shows the mileage spiking to 300k miles within a couple years, and then going back to 170k later on. I honestly have no idea what the actual mileage is but the current odometer shows 200k. I ran a compression test a few years ago which showed the engine was exceptionally healthy, so my guess is the engine was swapped for a newer one at some point if the 300k report is correct.

Other than that, the history report is clean except for a few failed emissions tests back in California.

I've always liked the 318is. Such a smooth running car that feels quick (even though it's just not), but lots of fun. Your car history actually runs the mileage to over 400k in July of 2008, but it really shouldn't matter anymore. A smart buyer will have it checked out and make a decision based on what he "feels" and sees for himself. It has never let me down. Good luck.

Can you PM me a screenshot? I'm looking at my Autocheck history report right now and it just shows 300k in 2004, and then nothing for 2008. What service are you using? If it's 400k, that's actually pretty amazing.

And yeah, with a 25 year old car I think mileage starts to matter less, especially on a car like this that you end up modifying anyway. Either way, stuff will need to be replaced and everything that's needed to be replaced or fixed has been. The car as it is now is sorted and something the next owner can enjoy daily for years to come.

I'll be going to my second garage to go take some videos for someone on Friday. If anyone wants pictures or videos of specific angles, let me know.

                        Here's a walk around video I did a few days ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5MK1D4F2Uc

Had a couple buyers back out, so still taking offers. Shoot me a price, the worst I can do is say no. I'm more concerned with getting the car to someone who will appreciate it.
