FS: Euro Spec 1986 BMW 325i

Unfortunately it is time to sell my E30. Life, school, and other projects have been getting in the way and it’s time for it to find a home where it will get the attention it deserves. It is a euro spec 1986 BMW 325i imported from Germany in the early 2000s by a dealership on the island. I bought it in late 2010 as a rolling project and have been through every mechanical part of the car from top to bottom.

Originally from Munich and serviced at the BMW factory for the first few years of it’s life the car is in good shape. The car is very low mileage for its age with approximately 150,000km on the odometer. Being a European car it has many options that aren’t typically seen here in North America. It has the desirable euro bumpers, city lights, front and rear fog lights, wind up windows, no sunroof, no power locks, no power steering, no A/C (although it originally came with it), manual radio antenna, etc. This all means the car is very light for a six-cylinder E30. On a truck scale with a trunk full of luggage the car weighed 2550lbs.

The engine is a 2.7 stroker motor from an 88 SuperETA. The original engine lost compression in cylinder 5 a few years ago and 2.7 short block with 180,000km was sourced to replace it. The original cylinder head was pressure checked and rebuilt with new valve guides, reground valve seats, a Bimmerheads 284/274 regrind cam, and slightly skimmed. The engine management was also replaced at the same time with a plug and play “whodwho” Megasquirt 2. The AFM was deleted, 19lbs injectors were used, an Innovate LC2, and ceramic coated BavAuto longtube headers to a G-Power muffler were installed as well.

The suspension setup is only a few weeks old. It has H&R Super Sport springs, Bilstein Sport shocks, E46 M3 rear shock mounts, Lemforder control arms, and E30 M3 control arms bushings. The steering rack is from an E36 and has a power steering delete. The wheels are the stock wheels from a 318is and have new tires.

The interior is in great shape with one small patch on the passenger seat bolster. It is the very desirable anthracite houndstooth cloth pattern with the matching sport seats. All of the seat adjustments work correctly and there are only minor tears and no stains.

The car is in good shape overall but does need some work to make it perfect. I installed the suspension recently and did a string alignment in the driveway but it could use a proper alignment to make it perfect. The paint is typical BMW single stage paint and doesn’t age well. You have to keep up on applying wax and polishing it regularly to keep it looking nice. The body also has some minor rust beginning but overall is in excellent shape. These early cars weren’t galvanized and don’t last as well as the later E30s but for an early model this car is in excellent shape. The trunk wells were they usually rust are clean as well as the front jacking points. The Megasquirt has some drivability issues as well which could be fixed easily if you’re Megasquirt expert (unlike me).

Overall the car is in great shape and just needs a few minor things to make it perfect. It will be sad to see it go but it will be better off with somebody that has the time to make it right.

I’m asking $9500 Canadian or $7500 USD. Car is located in West Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Very nice! How did you get the tach like that?

        Thanks guys.

I just took the clear plastic piece behind the face that illuminates and replaced it with one from a speedometer. Then cut new holes in the tach face and turned it 90 degrees. I used some paint to black out where the econommeter usually is.
