    FS: E39 Touring in NJ

Hey all. I have my e39 Touring for sale. It is a 2001 525i auto trans 162,000 miles that I used for a daily driver for work for 3 years. Silver exterior, grey interior. I have two main reasons for selling, I'd keep it otherwise. Reason one is my father, who got me the deal on the car, is retiring from his BMW tech job that he's had for the last 30 years. He's been at the Mt Laurel dealership in NJ for the past decade or so, and has serviced both my BMW's which has saved me loads of money and hassle. But with him leaving the industry, the maintenance cost is too much for me (I don't have space or enough knowledge to do it myself). Reason two is that I used it for work but my company put in place new regulations for which cars it will pay wear and tear and fuel cost on. The 2001 is too old for their stupid rules. I'll list as much as I can about the car below, any questions please ask. I can take more pictures if needed.

    Exterior:
    • The Silver paint is solid. A few rock chips on the hood and the rear bumper/trunk is lacking a clear coat.
    • Only rust spot on the passenger side skirt
    • Scratch down to black plastic on the front bumper, about a square inch or two.
    • Missing clear coat on top of some of the door handles.
    • Passenger side mirror plastic cover broke off in the winter ice. Its glued back on
    • No major dents
    • Driver's side fog light is loose in the housing but it still lights up (?)
    • New windshield with 0 miles on it. It was cracked by a rock about a month ago. (inspection is good but the sticker is gone) Could use new wipers

    Interior:
    • Seats are in great condition. Driver's seat has some wear on one bolster, but no tears and color is still vibrant. Door interiors are very clean
    • All interior electronics work. Dash lights all work as shown in pictures.
    • PDC does not work, I disabled it so it doesn't beep at me
    • Cup holder is removed because it broke like every single e39 cup holder...
    • Carpet is in decent shape, could use some shampoo because of my coffee habit. All mats intact
    • Front passenger speaker is blown but I have a replacement included
    • AC blows very cold. Heat is very hot
    • Steering wheel is in good shape
    • Some trim around the trunk is cracked and broken

    Drivetrain:
    • 162,000 miles. Water pump done about 15k ago.
    • Engine is smooth, starts every time after a quick crank. Warms up quick and constant temp
    • Transmission shifts smooth, better then my e60 imo
    • Slight oil leak like most 18 yr old BMWs. I usually add a quart once every few months.
    • No CEL or any other warning lights on
    • New intake boot, new AC belt and Drive belt. New tensioners.
    • New spark plugs
    • New battery
    • Not sure if this is "drivetrain" but the fan shroud piece that holds the coolant reservoir is broken. I just ziptied the reservoir to a bracket. They're like 50 bucks, It didn't bother me enough

    Wheels/Suspension
    • Obvious wheel mismatch. It was a rough winter on this car. The two fronts are Style 5's. The backs are paint lost style 42s I have winter tires on. I had a wheel get bent from a giant pothole and didn't have a spare style 5. So the car comes with 3 good style 5 and one slightly bent style 5. The bend is enough that it doesn't hold air in a tire. The 42s are winter beater wheels
    • Brakes are fine, though the rotors have some surface rust since it hasn't been driven much recently.
    • Some front suspension parts could use replacement.
    • Self Leveling Suspension works 100%. Never had an issue with it staying on or unbalancing.

Overall the car is in great shape for being 18 years old. It's been maintained for the past 5 years by my father who started his career for BMW working on E30s. He got me into E30's and I had two as my first two cars. Loved em but lost them in Hurricane Sandy flooding and had to scrap them. The engine/drivetrain is bulletproof and most of the flaws are cosmetic and minor. I really liked this car but can't drive it for work so it doesn't make sense to keep.

I'm asking $2,500 but I'm pretty open to offers. If you need additional pictures or need anything clarified please don't hesitate to reach out. Call or text works at 732 547 8682. I'd love this car to go to a BMW enthusiast so I'm not posting this is craigslist yet. I'd actually rather get less for it then have someone buy it to beat the piss out of and not appreciate it. So check out the pictures, I made sure to include the imperfection areas for full disclosure
