Unfortunately it's time to let go of my E30 as I don't have time, space, money and more to get her where I want her to be. This was supposed to be an OEM+ Hartge replica. The car is in great condition for an enthusiast looking for an well kept and fairly uncommon E30. Cons of the car are listed below and most of them are fairly normal for a car of this age. Please remember that this is not a garage queen but an amazing looking daily driver.
Price is 9000 OBO and location is in the Chicago suburbs. I am more than willing to work with motivated buyer. The lists below are not exhaustive but indicative of what kind of car this is. Just a FYI - a handy mechanic could easily part the transmission itself and sell it for a few grand as it is desirable on not just E30s but 2002s as well. Contact me for more questions/details.
Pros:
- Legally imported BMW E30 323i with chrome euro trim (175k miles on the body)
- California car for most it's life in the USA. Florida car for a few years - but garaged the majority of the time
- Garaged and driven lightly in Chicagoland since September 2017
- No rust except surface rust in the trunk battery tray. Actual battery is located in the engine bay
- Very rare Getrag 245/11 dog-leg transmission (Not to be confused with the Getrag 265/5 available in Euro E30 M3s)
- Working sun roof with no leaks
- Excellent condition rear vinyl seats
- Good condition carpet with no tears or stains
- Genuine Hartge parts (rims come with original wheel caps)
- Bronzit Beige Metallic respray (2.5 years old)
- Working 13 button OBC
- Rear fog lights work
Modifications
- CATuned Coilovers (Normal Weld)- https://catuned.com/catuned-bmw-coilovers
- Gunmetal Grey Powdercoated Brake Calipers
- E21 Recaro Front Seats
- Euro Smilies
- Rear Plate Filler
- Condor Weighted Shorty Shift Knob (https://www.condorspeedshop.com/.../...hted-shorty-sh...) - No shift cap installed because there is no dog leg pattern
- Genuine Hartge 16x7.5 ET25 Rims (Part# H6754031) with Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Size: 205/50ZR16 (20,000 miles)
- Genuine Hartge Rear Spoiler
- Replica Hartge Front Spoiler (made by Guten Parts in New Jersey)
- Debadged 323i emblem
- New BMW emblems
- Shaved USA import required side marker lights on front fenders and rear quarter
Maintenance
- Oil change (20w50): ~4000 miles
- New brake master cylinder: ~400 miles
- Brake fluid flush: ~400 miles
- New brake pads: ~5000 miles
- Transmission/Rear Diff fluid flush/fill: ~5000 miles
- New fuel pump: ~25,000 miles
- Refurbished cluster by Bavarian Restoration: ~5,000 miles
- Battery: ~3 years / ~20,000 miles
- Water pump / timing belt: ~3.5 years / ~25,000 miles
Cons - Mostly cosmetic and due to old age.
- Previous owner attempted to mod original M20B23 into a M20B25 stroker but did not do a perfect job. One cylinder does not perform well and the car burns more oil than it should. Engine has about 30,000 miles
- Car was involved in accident 2.5 years ago requiring fender and passenger front door replacement. The damage was fixed professionally and the car was subsequently resprayed the original Bronzit Metallic Beige
- One headlight has a crack in it (From polishing out chips. The rest of the lights are almost chip free and in good condition)
- Custom gauges from previous owner are not firmly attached to center console and can fall out on hard bumps
- Gauges for oil pressure are not accurate. It will probably require rewiring
- Front fog lights do not work (may not be wired at all)
- Headlight adjusters do not work (who even has a working set)
- Front turn signals do not have bulbs in them (Original bulbs were cut when repainting and installing Hartge rep valance. Purchase will include these bulbs). This causes the turning signal light to flash rapidly.
- Rear power windows do not work from driver side or passenger side
- Cracked front lip (requires fiberglass patch and repaint)
- Tears in E21 Recaros - requires repair/restoration. Mechanicals (adjusting angle of seat back is possible but difficult) require refurbishing as well. Original sport seats in good condition. Will include in sale if car is sold at the right price.
- A/C worked for two years after converting to R-134a. It stopped working last summer before being garaged - probably just needs a recharge.
- Window washer fluid tubes are not hooked up. Motor for fluid is working.
- Dash has a few cracks (all very small the largest being about 2")
- Headlight wipers not installed or working - wiper stalk might not be correct for them
- Front windshield and driver side front door have USA blue tinted glass while the rest of the car has OEM brown glass. It is difficult to find glass in brown without importing an entire car
- A large chip or two on the hood/fender from daily driving (extremely minor road rash on the hood and more on the front valance)
- Rear spoiler has hail indentations and needs a proper respray. The spoiler is a rubber material so I believe the original respray did not prep the material properly
- Cluster was not adjusted for the early model 2 pump gas tank - gas meter reads empty at 1/2 tank instead of empty
