\I know it sounds crazy but I really would like to have a touring! The vert is an amazing car but I have 3 e30 m3 and I would like to have something different. I know that somebody on the forums must have a touring or at least know someone that has one that could possibly be for sale.
Ryan,
PM karzrtoyz - David has the info you need.

I Know!!!!!! It is amazing what each country values as priceless vs. worthless! I would think that over here we would kill for one of these, but across the pond they are a dime a dozen! I definetly want one, now I just need to figure out what to do so I can import one! Thanks for all the responses!

good wagons are out there. mine was maintained beautifully (sans some rust hidden under the pass sideskirt) by some old guy in germany, and has about 99k miles on it.
for what your cabrio is probably worth, you could buy a touring in europe, probably for a grand or so, ship it over for a grand, then pay the $7300 to import it, and still have some mod money. If you'd like some registered importer info let me know, I'll try and dig out the paperwork.
if one is in canada, you still have to pay to federalize it, and you will pay a premium since it's in canada. I think it's better to get one from europe.
Your m3 rep looks great and is very enticing. I'm actually trying to work on getting an e36 touring that's already been federalized so I was thinking if I was crazy enough to sell my touring, but I don't think I am. I know I'd be kicking myself down the line if I ever got rid of it, my intention is to keep it forever.
good luck though, I'm sure something will come up. like i said, ask alex
I strongly recommend the touring though. drives just as well as a coupe, handles great for a wagon, has barely any more weight than a sedan, and you can fit everything in the back! i love mine, and I'm sure you will too if/when you find oneLast edited by ColdAccord; 01-15-2007, 12:20 AM.Originally posted by bluntcan you get me a deal on cases of their (fiji) bottled water? i wash my 02 in that shitComment

does anybody know a reliable registered importer to use for bringing a car into the US?? I am in the process of trying to sell my cabrio and whatever money I get from that car will be 100% invested into buying the e30 touring!1988 M3 (Diamondshwartz)

For the past couple of months I have been debating on selling my 2 E30's, a 1991 325ix and a 1990 325is to purchase a 325ix touring. The only place I have ever seen one is on Ebay Germany. They sell for about $1800 USD. Amazingly cheap, cheap, cheap. The good thing I liked about the German cars over the English cars was the Left hand drive versus the Right hand drive. The only problem I have found is actually getting the car to transported and then turned to a U.S. Spec version. The couple of transport companies I have contacted have laughed at me when I told them what kind of car I wanted to transport, and said they would not do it. I would really be interested in what you find out. Also would shipping be cheaper if 2 cars were brought over? Please call me when you have a chance

If it is 15 years old then you can import into canada, with no problems, but the US is different. here to just be able to import the car and register it, the car must be 25 years old otherwise you must federalize it! As far as I know to federalize it you must buy the car have it shipped here with the help of a registered importer. The Importer receives the car from the dept. of U.S. customs at the port of entry and from there begins to change things from euro spec to US spec. things like the gauge cluster, US sidemarkers, US spec bumpers and door reinforcement, High mount brake light, Catalytic converter, and if the car is newer than september of 1989 then you must have an airbag system installed$$$$$$$$$! All in all you are looking at spending $10-$12 grand just to ship the car over here and federalize it, then you have to pray that it passes the US EPA emissions test otherwise they crush your car or ship it back to europe!
I called a few registered importers and a few laughed at me and said they wouldn't do it because the value of the car isn't over the value it costs to import it, and others said they would do it but were very vauge about it. It is a lot of money to just send someone in hopes of getting a car 4-6 months down the road.
If anyone that has imported a vehicle wants to chime in about how it was done and your experiences please do!

Ummm...I know its not exactly the right thing to do but buy a cheapo 4 door and Vin swap it? Just go and register it as the 4 door and swap dash tags. Wait for it to be 25 years old and federalize. We all know you are gonna go back to eurospec once the car has passed everything anyways.
PS - Is the cab still for sale? If so PM me details.sigpicComment

Other than the fact that this is illegal does anyone know a "friend" who has ever done this? People swap dashes all the time and I'm sure some forget to swap the old tag over to the new dash.
Who is going to really get upset at the DMV about your 1989 station wagon when it's just defined as a 4 door. One of my etas was a 5E model, obviously sometime before me someone at the dmv decided to shorten the model name, laziness? Probably. Of course you'd still have to find one.Comment

This is a great idea, except for the fact that you don't get to see the car when it gets off the boat. It goes straight to the federalization department before you get the car. The only way to do this would be to fly over there with your dash plaque and switch it before shipping. Then claim this was a U.S. Spec car shipped to Germany and have receipts for this shipping. Then say you are shipping it back to the U.S. .
The only other way is to purchase a touring frame from BMW new and build your own. Good luck either way. I am still looking for a touring in the states and will pay the price when I find it. It will still be cheaper then shipping and federalization.Kevin Gibson
