1991 318is WBAAF9318MEE73827 Alpine Weiss II
For sale is a pristine, garage kept, 1991 BMW 318is with 156,xxx miles. The car has an accident free history and was kept in Long Island, NY for the majority of its life. The car has a New York State title that is clear and free of lien. It is currently registered in New York State and has a valid emissions/technical inspection sticker expiring on 09/2008. The original instruction manual and three keys (including an original valet key) are included with the sale. You will also receive a shop service history and several receipts documenting regular and major service intervals dating back to 95k miles.
Cosmetically, the car body is an 9 out of 10. There is a dent about 2" long on top of the passenger side fender and a small ding on the passenger side door below the molding. Both have intact paint and are very minor (see photos). At the rear passenger top of quarter panel (corner of trunk) there is a small patch of missing top layer of paint with the paint below completely intact. There are a couple of very minimal surface scratches on the lower valences from road debris which can probably be removed by professional compounding. The rubber moldings are in excellent condition and are shiny black. The sticker on the deck lid spoiler is MINT (I've owned several e30s and have never seen this mysterious sticker in person). The 14x6.5" BBS wheels are wrapped in very recently mounted Falken Ziex 512. Some light curbing is present on the lips. The previous owner also installed wheel locks onto the centercaps. The car has been recently detailed and looks fantastic. In addition, the tail lights lights appear to have been sprayed red and look very clean.
The black vinyl interior is in excellent condition showing little sign of age. The dash, console, and rear speaker panel are free of cracks. The beige headliner is clean and in great shape. The carpet inside the car and trunk is in good shape and included are all floor mats except for the driver's side. The airbag equipped vinyl steering wheel is in great condition. The seats are in great shape overall front and rear with all working controls, however the driver's seat has a scratch on the center seating pad that's a few inches long (the scratch appears to be incidental, its not on a surface which would see a lot of wear - like a bolster). The lean mechanism on the seats still brings the seats up into an upright position when engaged! The manual sunroof cranks smooth and opens fully to both positions. The window switches are brand new. There is a leather shifter boot but the shifter knob is a little ripped on the side. A remote control, detachable face, Panasonic receiver is currently installed and will be included with the car. The steering wheel stalk controls and six button on-board computer are all functioning in good condition. The heat works well and the A/C blows very cold.
Mechanically, the car is completely stock with the exception of very recently installed Bav-Auto spark coils and Magnecor Spark Plug wires. The cylinder head has been rebuilt with new valve seals less than a hundred miles ago. It runs very smooth and does not smoke. An Interstate MTP-91 battery ($100) has been installed last week. Other recent work includes new upper and lower intake manifold gaskets, fuel filter, several coolant hoses, and NGK spark plugs. The suspension is completely stock. Maintenance items have been installed at various intervals as per the list below. The car drives smooth and handles well without any clicks or noises. The 5 speed manual transmission shifts very smooth through the gears. The motor is very responsive, and pulls quite well through the powerband.
Some brief excerpts from the service history:
Mileage Action
141,306 Install clutch Kit, rear main seal, transmission mount
124,103 Replace upper and lower oil pan gasket
102,430 Replace front struts, replace driver's side front wheel bearing
98,806 Install rear shocks and shock mounts
95,683 Replace passenger rear wheel bearing, replace rear muffler
Items of note:
* Antenna motor turns on but does not pull the new antenna in. A new black top antenna mast ($20 value) is included with the sale (the antenna mechanism needs to be taken apart and remains of old antenna removed).
* There is no spare tire included with the car.
* Reverse lights do not engage (I was told that this is due to a faulty back up light switch, part number 23 14 1 354 071, quoted $6 from BMA).
* Several tools are missing from trunk tool tray.
* Rust: there is a very small patch of rust located near the rear license plate lights. This is minimal and located on the exterior only. It was treated with a rust deterring spray.
