WTB - E30 Vert in SoCal

I'm looking for a very dependable and well maintained vert for my girlfriend. She's really only interested in brighter colors, but not red or white. Lagungrene would be perfect. AT would be nice, too, but 5-speed is ok. We are willing to pay good money for a really nice car.

    Anyone seen this car?

I'm thinking about selling mine. It's an '89, automatic, white and navy blue, converted to euro look with bumpers. New: top, timing belt, brakes, tires, wheels, water pump, radiator, cap, rotor, plugs, belts, hoses and on and on. I've owned it since 8500 miles and it will be 10 years next April. Just over 100,000 miles now.

Never: painted, hit, stolen, abused....has spent most of it's life with us as a 3rd car.

Keep searching OC, San Diego, LA and Inland Empire Craigslist.

There are always several FS E30 Conv FS in various levels of quality, some are enthusiast owned and fanatically maintained. Others are for sale who don't know how to check the oil and are clueless on what a timing belt is. They also think their car has a V6 engine (see below). I would lean toward buying a car that is enthusiast owned. Otherwise you'll be putting a lot of money back into the car that an enthusiast would on top of any potential maintenance issue. The non enthusiast would just put it off or not noticed it. If you see a car for sale on this forum, I would strongly look at it because you know a fellow E30 fanatic owns it.

Late model E30 conv 91 & 92 had plastic bumpers, early models had diving board bumpers.

With the price of gas, you might seriously consider the 91/92 E30 318i conv. The DOHC M42 motor loves to rev and comes alive after 3500 RPM. A plus for the M42 is no timing belt, it has a timing chain.

A few examples from $700 to $5K, usual disclaimers apply, not mine, no affiliation, etc... After seeing some of the ads/cars, I wouldn't waste my time to contact the seller. Caveat Emptor!

Thanks guys. Wow, your car looks great, and I'm querying her initial interest as we speak, but unfortunately she has problems with white cars.:loco:

I'm definitely up to speed with everything on CL, but like you said, most people don't understand cars and tend to just run them into the ground. This is going to be a daily fun little car for her and I want something that has been maintained very well, because I plan to continue to do so.

Right now she's driving the 'ole E36 with 290k on the clock. Someone ran a red light and hit it recently, so I'm going to start using it as a daily while I do some more work on my E30. She loves E30 verts, and has decided that that's what she wants for sure.
