I'de say only about 5% of all members here could even consider buying that. Nice Porsche, free bump.

IMHO he will never get the asking price, if he wants to move it he should lower the asking price by at least 7-8Gs :drink:

996 are the lease desirbale 911s out there, unless it's cheap nobody wants them

                Very true.

996's are the worst Porsche's ever.

Total rubbish to look at and drive.

I see 99-01 at dealer auctions for low 20's all day.

Never having owned a 911 myself, I don't see what is wrong with the 996 besides looking like they share too many parts with the Boxster. What makes the 996 less desirable than other 911s?

I think part of it is how the headlights look compared with the previous and later generations. All 911's except the 996 have round(ish) headlights that the bodywork flows around better.

I can certainly think of a few worse models.

996s are far from 'rubbish', as far as driver's cars. While, I'll agree they're a little porky and certainly not the most raw 911 to roll out of Stuttgart, they're incredible capable machines that still provide fantastic communication/sensations that few cars in the $30-40k price range could dream of matching.

I'll take a 996 turbo over anything BMW has to offer now or in the past.

i feel ~ almost the same, with some exceptions

however only the turbos are cool, the others look like dick

Friend of mine had that turbo and it was a disgustingly fast car...he only sold it to purchase an f430...The turbo has some good looks because of the aero upgrades, but the regular models were a bit on the ugly side for me.

That front air dam isn't stock, is it?
Also, a suggestion: like with any 911, the list of options can make a difference. Look under the bonnet, the 996s have a copy of the build sheet glued to the underside.
As to 99-01 996s at dealer auctions in the low 20s.. please tell me where. I'm serious. Perhaps you'll even be able to find a turbo in the low 30s?
