Did you try Craigslist?

You'll find lots of eta cars in the price range you want. There is nothing wrong with that considering the price of gas these days. There are some good deals out there if the timing belt was changed within the last 30K. If you want a reliable car, I recommend you go with a 5 speed over an automatic, especially in your price range.
