    WTB: e30 in Michigan area!

    Hello all!

New to the forums but i figured this would be a good place to start. Im looking to purchase an e30 BMW at the persuasion of my father. I've been into modifying cars for quite some time now and with him owning a 92 535 it only seems right!

    Wanted:

    2 Door
    Sunroof/Moonroof
    Manual Trans
6 cylinder or 4 cyl turbo (Are there very many...?)

I am looking for a good condition one! m3 appearance mods are a definite plus. Mechanically in good condition please!

Im not against a project, but it will be my daily driver and i'd definitely like a good place to start.

Spending up to $5,000. Please post pictures with what you have!

Thanks again, i look forward to seeing some great vehicles!

Ah MI. I remember long ago shopping for my first bimmer, an iX. Looked long and hard (uh, huh huh) for one all around MI. Everyone I found suffered 2 of 3 problems: Rust, crappy interior, ungodly high mileage. I ended up buying my car in Colorado and avoided all 3, not to mention I paid a better price.

Seriously, I'd be looking in nonrust belt states. If you're willing to drop that kind of coin on an E30 you should be getting one damn nice car. Rust and other issues should not even be a question at that price point.

My buddy locally last fall sold his '90 coupe with ~145k on on it for I think $1900. It had some paint issues and very minor rust (like sand and paint, that minor) plus it had a host of maintenance done to it including an aluminum radiator. I know cuz I did most of the work. I was going to buy it for a nice SpecE30 platform but came across a caged roller instead.

Another buddy locally bought it and he's been daily driving it ever since. Nice car.

Anyway, point being, if you're willing to spend $5k for an E30 it should be a very nice, clean, lower mileage example. And shop south...although not too far south, no crawdads!

Finally, as much as I like the E30 waaaaay better than the E36, for that price you might consider an E36, $5k will get you quite a bit of car there if you shop carefully.

If you need any assistance locally please give me a call. Cheers and good luck.

Yeah i definitely have no problem traveling to buy the car. A one way plane ticket and a nice cruise home is a great way to get to know a car! I just hope i find the right one to suit my needs! Thanks for the input!
