Looking for a 4 door eta, 87-89 is fine. Doesn't need to run but engine needs to have already had timing belt replaced, a good head, etc. Going to be a daily driver and eventually an art car.

^ I imagine an 88 supereta would also do the trick. Also leaves room for easier improvement...
Edit: ... as long as they come in 4 door form. I can't recall if they were offeredOriginally posted by chileelkyamaze about the enthusiasm e30 generateComment

you might want to consider 318's also.
go to m42club.com and check some of that out. Down a few threads is a white 4 door.Comment

good question,
if its a shell with a totaled engine ill go 300. if its a in tact car thats just behind on maintenance ill go up to 1500. 2500 is my limit and thats only if the running car has new belts, rebuilt engine, clean interior etc.
i cant afford the big project cars with racing gear, turbos, or swapped engines as of now.
currently i have the cash for the project car, by December i can go the 1500-2000. so im shopping around atm.Comment

saw this was in your area, http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/car/756062158.html obviously not much to go on but sounds like what you need if you can negotiate a good price.Comment

With a $2500 limit, you will probably either have to get lucky or change your standards. It I were you, I'd be looking for a high mileage car that has been loved. M20's are pretty stout, and low-revving eta's will last even longer, all things being equal. The reason to go high mileage is this: A car with 200k+ has probably had a bunch of things replaced already, and someone had to do maintenance along the way for it to even make it that far. If you know about e30's (or 80's BMW's in general), higher mileage should not be scary for you. I would take a 220k car that looks good and runs well over a 110k car that 'needs a little TLC' every single time. And guess what? People go ape shit over low miles and the low mile beat piece of shit will probably fetch more money. Looking forward to your solution.Originally posted by chileelkyamaze about the enthusiasm e30 generateComment

this is exactly what i meant by one that was in need of maintenance. over 200K is more than fine with me, i know finding one under 150k is not only next to impossible but almost doubles the asking costs of them. at least you know one that has made it to 200k hasent been run ragged or completely abused. With a $2500 limit, you will probably either have to get lucky or change your standards.
