    deals are to be had out there. there is always the friend of a friends coworkers buddy that knows of one. to put your "search" in perspective here is my short story (look up my m3 project thread for pics etc).

    found mine through a guy i bought some hids from for my e36 over 3 years ago who knew a guy up near seattle that had one and was thinking of selling. got in contact with the seller and got the details on the car. broken timing chain guide led to the car being parked for almost a year. rusty windshield cowl and non running and he wanted $6500 for it. i waited a couple months and hit him up and he agreed to $4000.

    so to find one for $5000 is possible, but it may have no motor, or may need ALOT of work as im finding out. i wanted to rebuild my motor and came to find out i cant reuse my block so im on the hunt for a new motor to drop in sooo.

    $4000 for the car
    $2000 in timing parts and coolant hoses to rebuild a motor i cant reuse
    $3100 is the price for a motor i hopefully found for sale
    ======
    $9100 and its still not running, needs a full suspension and brake rebuild AND rust repair and paint. and i still havent started "tuning/modding". for the same price i could have bought a swapped standard e30, a e36m3, a e36, e39, e38 you name it i could get one for that pricerange.

    sure you still want one?

      Fine, if that's so ridiculous, then how much does a shell cost?

            Average for a decent rolling chasis without the engine, transmission or interior is about $4-5k.

              once you get a shell what do you plan to do with it? put a s14 in it? m20?m30? 24valve?

              perhaps explain what you want to do and what your plans are for the car. your budget etc. this helps the rest of us that dont have ESP figure out what youre doing. also doing this avoids a few (not all) of the sarcastic posts on here, and might give you a better idea of what youre dealing with.

              heres a idea: go to s14.net and register. look through the cars for sale ads, then go to autotrader.com and do a nationwide search for 88-91 m3s and see what you find out. THEN go to crazedlist.org and do a search on there for m3s and see what you find.

              does that give you a idea (after doing said research) ?

                  /\ yeah that too.

                  looks like from your other threads your just trying to replicate the body onto your standard e30.

                  try korman motorsports, they had a kit also that included fenders and rear quarters.

                          There is a running and driving one for sale over on S14.net, and listed on bimmerforums for $9,000. It has a lot of rust, dash cracks, broken sunroof, and a swapped odometer. However the posting does mention documentation of recent engine work.... Deals may be had, but they are few and far between. Your best bet is to spend 9-10K and get one with the proper maintenance history, and tend to the cosmetics.

                              judging from his posts he wants the car just for the body kit anyways.
