It should, but there are some differences between mid 86, mid 89, and the intermediate time between the two. Read around, there are definitely some threads on this one, but basically, if you have all of the early parts is should go in your late model. One caveat I think I remember was someone reporting a slight difference in actual shifter location in the cabin, but that could have been due to new shifter parts or a mix of parts.
