    FS: 110K M42 in NC, $450

    Hi,

I have a spare M42 that I purchased last year to scavenge a few parts from for the timing rebuild on my 318i. It was a running engine that was pulled from a totalled E30 318is. Here are the details

    ~110K miles on bottom end
Head replaced with a used one at ~5K miles before car was wrecked
Ran and idled fine before pulling (header only so it was loud!)
Includes upper and lower manifolds, fuel injectors and plug wires

I recently purchased a set of good used cam gears that I've installed. The guides are decent with some wear grooves, but no major chunks or cracks. I replaced the water pump with a good used one from my M42 engine - approx. 15K BMW unit. I reused the timing chain and tensioner as I assumed they had been swapped during the head replacement.

I have everything buttoned up but I would recommend replacing the timing case gaskets and the thermostat housing gasket as they were not replaced by me. The valve cover gasket seemed okay, and only leaked a little oil in one of the spark plug chambers. I did not torque the crank bolt, but have turned the engine over every month or so to keep things kosher.

I'd like to get $450 and would prefer pickup (not even sure how I would ship an engine full of fluids). I am located north of Charlotte, NC in the Lake Norman area.

    Here are some pics:

    Thanks for looking!

    Pete

Dang, good price! Everyone with motors I want are on the opposite side of the country. Why must it always work that way?

      Free bump for ya.
