    Help? Oil inspection light........

This is new to me so here goes. The car is a '89 325i w/ 155k on the odo and today both the red and yellow indicator lights on the service bar plus the oil service light came on. I changed the oil a few weeks ago and never reset the interval lights but when I got home I pulled out the Peake R5 reset tool and it had no affect. As a matter of fact, these two lights are staying on even when the ignition is turned off (battery drain for sure). Checked the oil and she is fine. Hmmmmm. Any ideas? As always TIA for comments and suggestions.>>>325YOY in Warshington State. :?

SI batteries are shot. Take out you cluster and check them out before you have more problems.

What exactly are you selling, may I ask?

Bmwpower is right, SI board is toast.

So it would be OK to drive it today and put up with the annoying lights and then pull it apart tomorrow, try to find batteries and hope she works? I've got the Bentley so I'll start learning up on how to remove the cluster. Any secret surprises waiting for me? Thanks guys.

Drive it for four years if need be, it's not affecting anything except the battery like you said, but even that should be minimal.

Seriously though, next time you should post this in the right section.

Right section? Gladly. I didn't know I was in the wrong place but would love to know the right place. BTW-Disconnected the battery ground, let it sit for about a half hour, reconnected it and performed a reset and it all works fine for the moment so I do suspect and hope it is only the SI batteries. Thanks again

Boy am I a fool! My link takes me directly to the FS section and I posted over here. Sorry and I promise to think twice before I post again. Thanks for being polite about it.

I know your problem has already been figured out, but when I bought my e30 the SI board was also shot (you probably just need new batteries, but you may need a new board if they have leaked and spilled onto the board) and I had the same issue. I drove the car for months with the lights always on...even when the car was off...and the battery drainage was never significant enough to cause any problems. They are just a couple small LED bulbs. I was out of town for 3 weeks and left the car with the battery still connected...started just fine when I came back. So, nothing to worry about but it is a very easy fix when you feel like getting around to it.

Thanks to all of you. I'm now off with all the goodies to grill a nice dinner at our 28 yr old son's house who has cancer. What a horrible thing to happen to a guy that young. Take care and thanks a million for your sipport and patience. BTW- I am a old fart but I was raised on BMW thanks to my father. My first new car I ever owned was a 1973 2002. I may have had the first E30 in the US back in '83 (gray market) Best to all of you
