I purchased a complete S52 with a warranty for $1700 from Vines Automotive in Bessemer, AL, from David Vines. Paid another $250 for my trans.

You do realise pistons and a head can be had for 500... The difference you're asking. 115k and 160k aren't really that different, at that point they should both have an overhaul of gaskets etc making history mean nothing. And I'm pretty sure one can find a tranny for less then 1k.

Yep.. My complete s50 with 540i hfm, harness, and chip for the HFM+ltw flywheel with similar mileage cost 2100, and I don't have to convert it to OBD1.

GLWS, you'll never get that absurd price though.

On a side note, selling a houndstooth interior in decent shape for $10,000. Let me know if interested.

How about a tool to hold the cams that cost $600 (granted you can rent one for about $100 if you can find it)?

The difference in power between 328 and M3 motor is about 25%. I want to see you shop for a car and tell the sales person that you saw exactly the same car with only 45K more miles for much less - you will get a laugh in your face. Changing 2-3 gaskets is now called overhaul? It's a regular preventative maintenance for anyone with a common sense. It cost about $50 done while the engine is out regardless if it has 115K, 160K, or 40k miles.

You arent selling a car, you are selling an engine. Obviously anyone with enough skill to drop one into a car knows how to change some gaskets, clean it up and has the common sense to do so when its out of the car.

Because i just sold an m52 with LESS then half your miles verified by carfax and i didnt ask even half your price. It still took a month to sell at that rate. Yours... will be on the market indefinitely at this price.
