    Feeler: Carbon fiber MtechII Splitters

I have to make one for myself so wonder if there is interest enough to have me make several for you other MTII guys also.

It would be very similar to RyanG's splitter. Approximately 3/16" thick, but about 4" deep with the typical carbon fiber twill weave.

What would be a price enticing to you guys?

If there is enough interest, I may also do them for IS lips.

I havent made them yet. It would all be done in one batch. I'm not going to do mine and later do more. If I did, the price would have to go up. I don't expect anyone to shell out money yet. That is why this is a feeler.

Imagine it looking like this but in carbon fiber (borrowed, will remove at owners request).

I think if you keep the pricing to around the 100ish range you'd be good. I mean the kopi replicas aren't much more than 200 so anything higher that 150 for me is too much. I'd rather just go buy some abs sheet and cut my own at 150+

I may be crazy but 150 is too much for me.

btw, how are you going to make them?

They would be 100% carbon fiber, not Kydex, ABS, or a laminate. I'm not talking about copying RyanG, he's got a good thing going. Carbon isn't cheap these days, the material cost would be high. They would be laminated sheets of carbon I'd make and then cut to shape. Pretty straight forward for me since I work frequently with composites.

I haven't seen any company make a carbon fiber splitter. If you have, show me. I've got plenty of other projects so I'm not going to bother if someone has already done it. I only decided to do it since I need one for my car and want carbon.

I have one. I will try and take a picture of it tomorrow. $150 is a good price if it is done correctly.

Autobahn Designs (ABD) used to make one for the A-2 VW's i had one on my Jetta for a while, but sold it an switched it out for a plastic (ABS) one because it killed me every time i scraped it (the jetta was pretty low). if it sticks out more than a couple of inches, i would suggest that you add some kind of stainless turnbuckle struts for support on the outside edge. you can even get them spring loaded so they don't bend if you scrape it a little.

Over on S14.net, "jedm3" makes one out of CF for the E30M3. I only say that because the M3 & M Tech II valances are very close to the same size but do have different curves at the edges. I think his were @ $250. Lots of bling but you tend to drive around gritting your teeth in hopes that you don't hit anything.

This one is more of a lip spoiler than a splitter. It's not CF but FG.

if it is full carbon fiber, that is made with quality resins and other materials 150$ is extremely cheap. ;)
