your buddy is a moron. he should part the car so he dosent do something even dumber with it. and why would bmw warrant the repair when its not even close to stock? did that cross your buddys mind when he went balls to the wall modding?

And the next question, very pertinent mind, is: HOW did he break the rear subframe, twice?

Yea, I thought that was only an issue in the e46 xi's

The BMW rear subframe cracking holds it roots to the E36 (and E46) on up. BMW AG has fixed the problem no questions asked but BMW NA just efffn sucks. They wont take responsibility. Anyways, it was for all model 3-series. The rear subframe itself doesnt snap....it tears from the drivers side then at the passenger side. BMW used inferior metal for the floor where the subframe mounts to. I know people who have had theirs fixed several times including using TMS subframe reinforcement plates and still snapping. Ranges from stock cars to fully modded. Doesnt matter. Luckily mine has never had a problem. :hitler:

Uh... no. It is an issue in some E46s. The numbers are apparently not that great - and it's NOT an issue with the M3s, unless some imbecile decides to use suspension that it too stiff to be useful on the track on the lovely potholes and joins of a normal road. In which case, he gets what he deserves and should quite probably not blame BMW, as others have said.
