FS: Transfer Case/Driveshaft for Manual iX.

This is the original TC that was on my car (1990, 5 speed, around 190k miles). It was opened up by a local mechanic who said that the internal gears are in great shape. However the output shaft is stripped about halfway down. Of course the genius of the ix design is that the driveshaft only uses up half of this shaft :rolleyes meaning that if you were to extend your driveshaft, it will make a connection with the TC and work. A writeup on this procedure can be found here, halfway down the page: http://home.earthlink.net/~wardellhi...Xchange26.html

I bought a used TC locally and I have this one sitting around. It will NOT work as is with a standard drive shaft, well it will, but its not advised lol. However, if you extend your driveshaft it will completely work. I also have the driveshaft I will include. Typically a used TC in good shape (i.e. good condition output shaft as well as the internals) sells for around $750-1000, and a used driveshaft for around $100-250. I am asking for $400 for the TC and the driveshaft. I'm definitely open to offers as well, and have no problem meeting around the new england area. It weighs around 75lbs meaning shipping would be redonculous, but possible.

This will NOT work on an automatic ix.

I took a video of it in action. The begining shows the shaft being placed where it originally sat, and you can hear it spinning around and barely gripping (thats why when this happens to an ix you get an awful scraping noise), then I place the shaft ALL the way and it turns smoothly and gets a full grip. That shaking noise once its installed all the way is off the table shaking, NOT the TC btw:

and another video of it spinning

PM me. I'm happy to answer any questions :)

well, i know you didn't ask my advice, but if you actually wish to sell this tc, you might take a look at this link and adjust your pricing accordingly due to the damage on your tc. i could give you my opinion of what i think it is worth in the condition you have stated, but you haven't asked and i am not trying to offend you, but help you out. your case stripped itself out because the grease dried out and was never replaced. as far as the fix you mentioned above, the longevity of that repair will have mixed results at best. also, bmw designed the front driveshaft to slide in and out of the splined socket as the suspension flexes. your driveshaft pictured above should never be reinstalled in a car since a used one with good splines can be purchased for about 100 bucks.

anyway, here is the link: http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthread.php?t=74642

thanks man, not offended at all. I totally forgot about that price guide. I was just going by the prices I saw when I was looking for one this summer. I WISH I could find one for 300 bucks :(
