Sorry, I'm a bit confused by the wording, is this starter good for the M20 325i motor as well as the M42?

Yep, but only when you want to go to the lighter flywheel (the one im selling) because of the ring gear difference.
For the M42 by itself, no however :)

Absolutely. I've driven both a 325is and a 318is with this mod and it's awesome!

Yep, you only need a 325i clutch kit and TOB, the flywheel even has the reference sensor so it makes it motronic 1.0 friendly. For those wondering, stack height is the same as the 325i single mass flywheel, except the engine side is shaved down nearly flat to the ring gear.
The starter is 7 lbs vs 14 lb eta large case starter, you dont NEED to replace it but it makes it a hell of a lot easier since you have a straight shot to the 17mm bolts with a ratchet, extension, and socket. The m20 starters all used the same pyramid shaped teeth and pinion gear, unlike the shark tooth style of the S14 for example.

will this work with the s50 swaps? I need a e30 manual 325i flywheel according to the DIY swaps.

If they call for a normal e30 325i flywheel, then yes because the only difference was a part that doesnt touch anything is shaved down.

Yes the 325 flywheel still need to be shaved down also.
