This is a set of very nice Cibie lights from France. Yup, not all Frenchmen are fools and run those stupid yellow lights. These could be 40 years old and this style was probably never sold in this country. They are marked SAE and the high beams also DOT, but they don't have the 3 adjustment nubs, so they aren't legal in the US.
They are excellent lights, some of the best I have ever seen for night vision. I raced Off-Road race cars for years and at 2:00AM in the middle of the Baja 1000 race course 130 Watt Cibie Super Oscars were always my best friend. The Super Oscars are very collectible now and a pair of NOS ones from the 1970's can sell for $1,500. Seriously.
These light have a tall dome shape, taller than the worthless US seal beams. They just look different because of the shape. These have 55 Watt bulbs, but they do make 100 Watt bulbs for them. If you run the 100 Watt blubs I recommend that you rewire the head light looms with larger wire. I have ran 100 Watt bulbs in E30's with the standard wiring, but it's not a great idea. Don't try it in the cars with bullet fuses like an E28 though.
The glass is excellent with very minor pits that aren't really noticeable. They come with the metal early E30 doors and with wiring pigtails so you can upgrade a late car with Ellipsoids. OK, I know that sounds backwards. Trust me, these are better lights.
I'm looking for $250 for the set. I will probably list them on some of the forums for the older BMW's like the E9 and E12 cars. I may put them on eBay also as people restoring many different brands of older Euro cars know what these are.
Please, don't PM me. I am on many different computers and I can only log into this forum from one. Simply use the link to my e-mail - germancarsonly@gmail.com
