TW: Lets trade diffs! '89 325is

No idea if I could pull this off with someone but I am really wanting a longer final drive. I have a 1989 325is with factory limited slip (3.73?) I want something longer for the highway and for when I am turbocharged (but must be limited slip).

What I'd really like to do is find someone in my general area (southeast USA) and make a day of swapping diffs from one car to another (preferably here at my place but I am not opposed to traveling). This way we will know without a doubt that we have worry-free working diffs before we trade. I also can't have my car down for more than a day since its my only ride right now or else I would just pull mine and sell it for another diff.

I know its a long shot but it never hurts to try I guess. If this sounds interesting to someone then shoot me a PM.

Take a hoop over to www.mye28.com and ask the same question to the 5'er boys. This is a common swap for them. 3.25lsd to a 3.73 gives them better gearing and gives you the ratio you are looking for.

Thanks for the tip! So I'm assuming the E28 diff and E30 diff are 100% interchangeable. I hadn't really thought of it to be honest.

Yes. also the 735i and 635i have 3.46lsd on occasion but you are going turbo so consider lower. Most use 2.93 with boost. I am looking for a nice clean 2.93 right now myself, but have a 3.46 and a 3.25 that I will hang on till I find the set up I like best.

I have a 2.93 LSD that I'm going to be letting go of soon. It's got a lot of miles and could use a refresh, but I'm going to have no use for it.

Other side of the country, tho. :*(

70 bucks UPS to ship clear across country, KenC bought my 4.45lsd. Ship in rubber maid container, zip tie lid wrap diff in plastic and foam in place it to prevent damage.

I've actually shipped like 3 out of 4 diffs I've sold that way. The one time I actually built a crate for it, it broke apart in transit.

If either of you are interested in it, let me know. A 3.73 LSD is exactly what I'm in the market for.

I'd be willing to purchase this one outright, not sure how I'd like a 2.93 but PM me a price and I would pay the shipping if its worth it? Just lmk. If nothing else it will be something fun to experiment with I suppose haha.

                EDIT

You being on the wrong coast makes my original plan a little impractical lol.

I have a 3.73 LS in need of rebuilding...

I'll probably never get around to it.
